acupuncture for cc?

Post by maddie »

Hi everyone, I have friends who are always trying to find ways to help me have a more normal life with this tiresome condition! One of them called me yesterday to report something she had seen on the internet regarding the benefits of acupuncture for chronic diarrhea. Has anyone heard of this? Also I was told to try oil of peppermint capsules which I believe made me much worse. I have had a really rough couple of weeks so am pretty willing to try anything. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks Maddie

Hi Maddie,

I'm sorry to hear that you're currently having a rough time. How do you normally treat the MC - are you taking any type of med, or restricting your diet?

I believe that at least a couple of members have tried acupuncture to control their symptoms. I recall one recently posting that it seemed to work for a while, and then it stopped helping, (if my memory is not playing tricks on me), but I can't remember who it was.

Here are couple of past threads where Angy mentions that she uses accupuncture:

Be careful with oil of peppermint, because it can lead to GERD, and GERD seems to be associated with MC, for many members.

I hope you can find some relief soon.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Tex, Thanks for the quick response! I may try acupuncture for a while anyway. I was diagnosed with cc about 5 years ago. I took asacol for awhile and went into remission until one year ago. I was put back on asacol and it did nothing, my doc then had me try the pepto treatment which did nothing also. He sort of blew me off by saying the next step would be steroids which I do not want to take. I have tried the gluten-free diet and couldn,t really tell if it made a lot of difference. Although, as you know, that diet is really difficult to do 100% even when one tries his best! I basically take nothing but immodium when I know I have to go someplace that is unknown as far as facilities are concernced. Lately though I have been cramping more and I can't really point to the reason, which is why I thought of trying acupuncture. My gastro is like having no help at all! Don't know what I would do without this board. Have a good weekend and thanks again. Maddoe
