Had my allergy testing today

Post by Pat »

It was skin testing and of course it showed I was highly allergic to weeds, trees, and grasses. I knew that from testing 20 years ago. He said it was pretty significant still so he recommended shots. He still wants me to keep taking the Singulair which is helping my sinus allergies a lot and even helping my digestive problems as well. I have gained weight and my BMs are better, not normal yet but I don't go as often or as much. Guess that is why I have gained weight! I am continuing the GF, DF, SF, and FF (fructose free) diet. Also I am still on Entocort. He doesn't want me to change things just yet. The goal is to get me off Entocort and still be doing as well as I am right now or even better! I feel better too!

Pat,

This is great news. I hope you have continued success. You've sure had a hard road to follow and it's great to see some progress. Keep it up.

That's fantastic, Pat! I'm so glad to read that you're gaining weight. Maybe you'll finally get some relief.

I've cut way down on my fruit intake, but I'm not ready to give it up completely.

Pat,

It's not surprising that Singular might have beneficial effects for MC. It's a leukotriene inhibitor, and leukotrienes are considered to be involved in the initiation and continuation of several inflammatory diseases, (such as arthritis, rheumatism, colitis, psoriasis, asthma, etc.). IOW, leukotrienes are proinflammatory.

Still, while it seems obvious that a leukotriene inhibitor should reduce inflammation, in the reports of research trials that I have seen, (for UC, for example), suppressing leukotriene synthesis did not help to achieve remission. Maybe the effect is more subtle, and the researches were looking at the wrong markers.

Anyway, the bottom line is, never look a gift horse in the mouth, especially when dealing with MC.

It's good to see that you're having some positive effects.

Tex

P. S. Incidentally, for what it's worth, Boswellia serrata extract supposedly fights inflammation by suppressing leukotriene synthisis.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Gloria,

I would not wish for you to have to cut back on your fruit intake, I miss it so much! Do you have gas, or bloating? If I eat fruit or any other kind of sugar I get so much gas that I have to take Gas X and/or Pepto.

Tex,

Thanks for that info. I am really happy for any relief at all. I just want to get off the Entocort or at least reduce the mgs soon.

Pat,
It seems that my reaction differs according to the fruit I eat. When I had my UTI a couple of weeks ago, I was drinking Splenda-sweetened cranberry juice all day long and I had gas all day and night. It probably wasn't the cranberry juice, but the Splenda. I knew I was taking a chance with the Splenda, but I didn't want to ingest the sugar in the regular juice.

When I have a banana, I get pressure all day, feeling like I have to go. Other fruits seem to give me a softer stool. I'm still experimenting to determine if there are any fruits that I can eat, and in what form. Canned pineapple seems to be OK, fresh strawberries and strawberry jam, too.

I've given up fruit juice in the morning and am drinking ice water all day long now, except at mealtime when I drink an almond-homemade rice milk combination.

I hate to say it, but I do much better when I eat little or no fruit.
