Emily just got her Great Smokey Diagnostic testing back. No parasites or
bad bacteria or yeast problems. They did say she had trouble digesting sugars. That is interesting.
I just read The Self-Help Way to Treat Colitis and Other IBS Conditions, by De Lamar Gibbons, MD.
This book makes so much sense. The idea behind it is that we are not digesting fructose and lactose. So, any fruits, corn syrup, beans, Mannitol, Xylotyol are out. You can have potatoes and rice and corn just not corn sugars or sweet corn. Also he suggest a low fiber diet.
It makes sense. Emily wanted to try going back on corn, as the verdict wasn't out yet on corn. She ate so much candy and icies that she has been super sick the past week.
When we went on Vaction last month she ate a bunch of those natural fruit
leathers. She was sicker than a dog the entire vactaiton. She also ate a bunch of chocalte on vacation and her tongue turned into a big huge sore.
I think this is really the culprit. Her food allergy testing also had her allergic to most fruits and sugars. I think the clues are adding up.
The Nurse just called and her Upper small bowel just came back negative.
Tears of joy.
We are starting the Pepto treatment today. This does have Mannitol in it,
which is not on that diet.
Our Chiropractor said that he can get just the main ingredient in the Pepto.
I think I'll call him today.

Roni,
That's good news on Emily's test results. It sounds as though Emily has the same basic problem that I have--I grew up hooked on sweets, and I still crave 'em.
Very interesting information on Dr. Gibbons theories. I may have to try to get a copy of that book, since my pattern of problems certainly seems to mesh with that. Thanks for the info.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Roni,
Great news that it just might be the sugars. Hard to avoid but it is a blessing knowing what the possible trigger might be.
Tell her to hang in there and being one who loved sweets I am seriously learning how to avoid them. Makes for a more pleasant life.
Love, Maggie

Wow Roni that is such great news about the negative test results! Now you can cross parasites, bad bacteria and yeast off your list as well as a myriad of upper GI problems. It sure sounds to me like sugar is the culprit. Wouldn't that be something! At least they should be able to monitor or verify it if that is the case. Good luck. I really hope this is the "home strecth" for you and Emily. Do keep us posted and good luck.
