You mean I might be able to make Chex Mix again? What a thought! Will have to check it out.

Katy,

FWIW, I get bloating from both the GF Rice Chex, and GF Corn Chex, every time I try them - no other significant symptoms, just some bloating.

We've been able to find the Rice, Corn, Honey Nut and Strawberry gluten free versions, but have not yet seen the Cinnamon or Chocolate in our area stores... but we check every time.

What I like most is to be able to have some "regular" cereal in the house for when other family members come to stay with me. We keep a gluten free house, and usually that sticks when company comes, too.

Very occasionally, we will "order out" a pizza or sub-sandwiches, but I won't "shelve" anything that isn't gluten free in the house.

We have tried both the Honey Nut and Strawberry, just because we could ;). They were both tasty... very sweet when you aren't used to eating these things. We're really waiting for the Cinnamon, though!

Cara

P.S. Tex, I know quite a few people who say they can't tolerate any grains. I haven't quite been able to take that grain free step, myself, although I don't seem to have any noticeable issues with other grains.

Cara,

What puzzles me, is the fact that I can eat corn chips, (tortilla chips, actually), tortillas, boiled rice, etc., without any noticeable symptoms. With the cereals, though, I notice the symptoms regularly, (no D, though). I agree with those who say that we would be better off without any grains, though. I believe that's quite true. It's just unpleasant to give up the variety they offer.

We have both the rice and corn in the store here now. Bought the corn kind last week...then realized as I got to the register that I'm now dairy intolerant and therefore, cereal isn't the best choice. But I bet it will make a good crumb crust for fried chicken, or chex mix, or something else I'm sure. Will have to keep an eye out for the other choices.

For the commetn about "geared to kids" cereals, I quite like the EnviroKids cereals. If you can eat dairy, the Koala Krisps make great rice crispy treats, and the cereal bars are good too. And convenient for travel when you never know if the "breakfast buffet" at the hotel will have anything either edible or gf.

Katy,

How about almond milk, or hemp seed milk?

very excited and bought the cinnamon chex. I quickly scanned the ingredients and put in cart. Had a reaction, re-read ingredients and saw milk powder....I should know better. I love when companies state at bottom of ingredients...contains milk, soy ect. Will check out the corn one next...gave the cinnamon one's to my book keeper who can eat anything!

Kathy,

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger - we've all done that. In fact, when the GF Rice Chex first became available, I carefully read the label on one, then, without checking, grabbed another and threw them both into my basket. Sure enough, when I got home the second one was an old box, that contained gluten. Fortunately, before I tried it, I noticed that the GF message wasn't on the front of the box, (like the other one), so I read the label and realized what I had done.

Hi, I'm new here, but not new to MC, I was diagnosed in December '06. I was pretty sure what I had from reading up on my on-going D.
I went gluten free for quite a few months and it went into remission, over 2 years, now it is back with a vengeance. Have no idea why. So off to the store today and I'll be looking for the Rice chex and Corn chex.

Bloating, well I wouldn't know what to do if I wasn't bloated most of the time.

I have been having a good time reading through this forum.

Hi Gas Bag,

Welcome aboard. Reading your post, I'm assuming that after you acquired remission, you stopped rigorously following the GF diet. MC is an Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and like all IBDs, it can wax and wane, and sometimes disappear completely, and then return, if treatment is not continued at all times. Most of us are so sensitive to our food intolerances that we have to continue a maintenance treatment at all times, or we will promptly relapse, but a few of us are lucky enough to have some leeway. You must be one of the lucky ones, (or luckier than most, anyway).

I'm curious about where you got the inspiration to try the diet, to control your symptoms - was it your GI doc?

I hope you can get your remission back, as soon as possible. Again, welcome to the group.

WELCOME GAS BAG!!!

Like Joan, I love your avatar, screen name and tag line.

I'm impressed that going gluten-free brought you remission for two years. You know what you can do to bring remission and that's 99% of the battle with this disease.

You'll find a variety of ways we manage our MC here and many levels of progress on the road to remission. We look forward to getting to know you.

My Doctor, not quite. I told him what I was doing to try and help myself, and he did check for Celiacs as well and said I did not have it. But if not eating gluten was helping me, it wouldn't hurt me to stay on it. And also I found Psyllium husks helped alot with the runny, watery..well you know.

I have alot of free time to peruse the internet at work, so I started trying to help myself before I found out I had MC. I was sure that was what I had before I had the colonoscopy, I had all the symptoms and was lucky enough to go to a GI that checked for it too.

So after a few months I got back to normal and really these last couple of years have been eating and drinking anything I wanted, and then all of a sudden it reared it's ugly head again. So I am back on the wagon, I am still drinking a few cups of coffee, I can not live without it.

Oh and hi everybody and thank you for the warm welcome, I wish I would have run across you guys a few years ago. Better late than never.

It's nice to see so many other folks who understand our issues. Hopefully it is temporary, but now my life revolves around knowing where the nearest bathroom is at any given time! Oh boy. Thank goodness where I work there are lots of bathrooms around.
