margarine?

Post by Carole »

Just noticed that my "i can't believe it's not butter - olive oil" spread has soy products as first 3 ingredients. i went to the health food store hoping to buy something that didn't use soy - but they all had soy! what do folks do for a buttery spread when you can't eat dairy or soy?

Earth Balance is gluten, dairy & soy free..
That's what I use.
Also, Ghee..
You should be able to find both at HFS's or Whole Foods.

Earth Balance makes a soy free one. I believe Dee was the one who told us all about it. I got my health food store to order it right away.
It's so nice to have a choice beside olive oil........

Carole,

You may already be in touch with JoAnn about places in Utah to purchase "our" foods. My daughter lives in South Jordan and I visit her frequently. I usually go to Harmon's to get my grocery supplies when I'm there. Occasionally I'll also go to Whole Foods in Salt Lake City.

I didn't know that there was a soy-free Earth Balance. The one that I get has lots of soy. If I ever have to go soy-free, I'll remember this!

margarine...

i checked all the Earth Balance varieties at Wal-Mart today and they all had soy. We don't have a Whole Foods nearby and it's quite a ways to a Harmon's but i'll definitely get there to check it out. i've heard they have a large selection of "good" foods there as well as better quality meats.
I spent quite a while today perusing the "food" section of this message board and really learned a lot - it's going to take more time to digest it all (if you'll pardon the pun), but i'm so glad to know there's someplace to look!

thanks,
Carole

Carole,

If you happen to have a health food store nearby, they usually offer a pretty good variety of "allergen-free" foods. Some of us occasionally order certain items online, if we can't find them locally.

You're most welcome,

Unfortunately Nuttelex don't export to the US or UK, but if you happen to be in Australia or the middle east you can pick some up!

Maybe if they got lots of emails??

This stuff is good enough that my husband who is not GF or DF uses the Pulse variety to lower his cholesterol.

earth balance soy free

Post by alexandraCA »

I've used Earth Balance for years due to dairy intolerance and now with the GF/EF/SF it was a wonderful surprise to find Earth Balance sans soy at Whole Foods. It's funny the little things that make your day :)

A friend w/o food sensitivities told me about LARA Bars (they have nuts) which are fabulous! http://www.larabars.com

Also, a great chip company called Food Should Taste Good--I love the Sweet Potato chips and the Lime chips. http://www.foodshouldtastegood.com/

Also, here's the Earth Balance store locator. And if your local stores don't carry it, always tell the manager that you'd like to see it in their store. Many products make their way into supermarkets because customers ask.

Thanks, Alex, I look forward to trying those chips if I can ever eat fiber again. I will see if they have them at our Costco.

costco for chips

Post by alexandraCA »

Food Should Taste Good does sell their multigrain chip in a great big bag at Costco BUT is has soy (which isn't a problem for everyone). Most of their other chips are soyfree. Oh, the irony in life.

But, here in Los Angeles I find their varities at Whole Foods and supermarket chain Ralphs (Krogers on the east coast). I have never been a big potato or corn chip eater but these are light and flovorful and wonderfully crisp.

Also, I can not say enough about French Meadow Bakery GF tortillas. The consistency is a chewier one, like a homemade Indian naan almost. I heat them directly over the gas burners of the stove. I didn't realize they had an actual bakery until last week a friend serendipitously posted a photo of it on Facebook while he was traveling cross country (they're in the Minneapolis area). Too funny.

Go to their site to download a coupon for a $1 off any product. Some are GF, some not. www.freshmeadow.com
