Hello everyone;
I tho't I would update you on my gluten intake..A few weeks ago, I found from a follow-up after a colonoscopy, the biopsies showed NO Collagenous Colitis & no damage done to the intestine..The doc told me to try introducing gluten very slowly back into my diet to see if I was allergic to gluten. I was on a very strict GF diet for 6 yrs.
I have been doing this, & so far, so good..At first I tho't it wasn't going to work, but my body did adjust, & norman is here...yayyyyyy!!!!!!This sure has opened some doors for me. I still can't tolerate cruciferous veggies, & foods that trigger my GERD, but at least I can eat a few more things..Polly, you know how that would feel for you...The first piece of pizza I had, I was elated...lol ...The doc & I, also think I have IBS..I have started taking Benefiber w/good results..
I couldn't take fiber at all w/the CC w/o disastrous results. So, I'm hoping for the best, that I am (dare I say it?) cured? I'll keep on 'a' goin' & see what lies ahead..
Take care all, there could be hope for you too...
Hugs;
Fifth

Just an update.....
This is a great day, because you are part of it.
Hey Penny!
Great to see a post from you! I am watching your progress with great interest. You have been GF longer than anyone here - 6 years is two years longer than anyone else here, I think. So you are the first to resume eating gluten after such a long time. We GFers will be keeping everything crossed for you and hoping that your gluten trial is successful. Maybe there is hope for us!!!! BTW, I recall that you had many other intolerances too. What are you doing about those?
Please give us regular updates. And good luck! Pizza! SIGH........
Love,
Polly

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.

I am a bit astonished that your Doctor would recommend that you start eating gluten even if you have not had problems in some time. From all I have read and all the past and present research my understanding is that CD and gluten sensitivity is a gene based auto immune disease that if you have it is never going to go away. I can not imagine any doctor telling a Celiac that since the small intestine damage no longer shows up on a biopsy that they can go back to eating gluten. Granted, you may not have full blown CD but in that you have done so well for six years it would seem clear IMHO that you certainly have reacted to gluten in some way. Just because you have not had a problem with the gluten that you have eaten recently may only mean that you have not eaten enough to start produceing antibodies to the degree that damage has started up again. It may take a few weeks or a few years but if you are gluten sensitive, IMHO, you symptoms will return. I would hate to see that since you are doing well now .
I, of course, don’t know your full history and hate to be a party pooper but in that I have both genes for CD and MC and am doing so well on the bounties of a grain free natural food diet after being so sick , no matter how well I feel, I will never consider going back to a gluten grain based diet.
I wish you the best but in complete honesty fear for your continued health.
My best
