Deb,
Was one thing you read, perchance ,my reference to the big live culture yogurt I got in the hospital post antibiotic treatment post surgery post a "sterile" gut with diarrhea worse than my usual? Whew!!
I still think that was so strange that that worked since I ended up being sensitive to dairy, and I'm sure I was sensitive to the protein part of it called casein, even then.
Back then, I didn't yet know what is was that was the matter with my gut prior to that antibiotic (about having M.C.), but I did know it was the antibiotic that caused an even worse case of diarrhea to go along with 102 degree fever that had given me an arrhythmia and sent me back to the hospital.
Haven't read all the articles as yet, but it was interesting that the yogurt worked so well and so quickly to put a stop to those uncontrollable episodes, but then the gut flora was wiped out by then, so that's what it should've done.
I guess after that, I just went back to my usual "IBD" autoimmune self until I got the colonoscopy.
Now, I might kill myself if I were to eat dairy yogurt, particularly in that large a quantity. Oh well!
Hope your success continues. Congrats on the lifestyle changes. Should be helpful as well.
Yours, Luce

Hi Luce and Ant,
Luce, yes I read your post, and what an ordeal for you!
What I think is extremely strange is most people eat probiotics to keep them regular, if they are constipated, it loosens them up.
I also found a website where people were writing no end of horror stories how the probiotic yogurt makes them have D really bad. I think it is strange how it can have the opposite effect on us.
I think my body is killing off the bacteria in my colon and I need it replaced..that's my story and I'm sticking to it! I hope somebody else tries it and has some success, anybody who can eat dairy that is. Although my 81 year old mom say she is lactose intolerant, but she eats it with no problem. She has had part of her colon removed, gosh about 10 years ago or so, because of diverticulitis and has had no end of problems ever since, although the pain of course it gone. We both keep our sense of humor and have some very funny conversations about all of our D problems over the years!
Ant, that did just come to me yesterday.
My best to you both...(and everybody else too)

I'm in a mad rush to get to work, but I found this on another forum/website, I'll look for more later, no time now!

I have suffered with IBS for several years. Two years ago after eating a chicken sandwich at a popular food chain, I developed serious diarrhea that could not be stopped by powerful medications like Lomotil, which continued for 4 months.
After a colonoscopy & biopsy, I was diagnosed as having Lymphocytic Colitis, which was brought under partial control by Asacol (mesalamine) 6x400mg/day and a very restricted diet.
I started taking "DanActive" 3 months ago and after four days my motions became more solid. After a month I found that I could eat normal foods that I had previously enjoyed with no ill effects. My gastro-enterologist is delighted with the result and suggested that I try "Floro-Q2" & "Align." "Align" contains a Bifidum bacterium not included in "DanActive". "Floro-Q2" contains the three micro organisms present in "DanActive" plus the Bifidum organism in "Align". I have found all to be effective.
I have now inoculated boiled milk with these organisms & make excellent yogurt, which appears to be highly active in preventing my intestinal problems. I no longer take the expensive "Asacol" tablets & I eat most foods with no intestinal problems.
Since starting this regimen, an interesting article appeared in the "Newsweek" magazine entitled, "Killing Germs can be Hazardous for Your Health". I found it excellent & illuminating. My appetite has improved, the soreness in my gut has disappeared, and I have started regaining the weight that I lost. I am 73 years old and wish I had found this treatment years ago.
