Oh that is good news.JLH wrote:The doctor said that the fracture lined up even better than it looked on the x-ray so she was able to have screws instead of a new hip.
Whew.

DB said that she is a bit disoriented and agitated this evening. I think he will stay over night. She keeps trying to get out of bed and she has a catheter.
DBs kept saying they put an alarm on her. I said but she can hurt herself before they can get to her because no staff is in the room or right outside the door. I guess it finally sank in. Whew, and I'm not even there.
One poor brother has to deal with most of this and has to deal with his twin, too.

Alarms seem like a good idea, but usually, the nurses are too busy, (and understaffed), to respond immediately. When I was in the hospital, recovering from surgery, whenever one of my monitor alarms would go off, (the IV alarm was bad about doing that, sometimes), I could have left the hospital, before they got around to checking on me. One time, the IV line somehow became unplugged, at my wrist, (evidently, it wasn't securely plugged in), and instead of feeding the IV solution in, my blood was pumping out, onto the bed. It was supposed to be infusing saline solution, to replace blood lost during the surgery. If I hadn't plugged it back in myself, I probably would have been pretty low on blood, by the time a nurse showed up. I was glad that I was awake, when it happened.

Hospitals are dangerous
DB stopped one the the hospital nurses or aides from giving Mom the wrong pill. If my brother hasn't reported it, my sister will. She's flying to Cleveland tomorrow from NYC.

Thanks, Pat. We are going up there next Friday for a few days.
Mom didn't get out of the hospital because she didn't void when they took out the catheter.....
DB spent the night in the hospital because he was having chest pains! He even sent email so we thought he was home.
He said it finally happened, his twin put him in the hospital. I think it was a combo, Mom and his difficult brother.
They wouldn't release Tom until the doctor wrote him a prescription. Guess what it was........

Hmmmmmm. Seems like a popular product these days, but I didn't realize they wrote prescriptions for that.

I spoke to my sister and they are all frustrated as heck with the nursing home. By law, they aren't allowed to restrain patients and Mom tries to get up at night. Hiring someone to sit at night costs $150 and that person isn't permitted to do anything.
They have to keep heavy duty meds in a lock box and there wasn't any heavy duty pain medicine in it when Mom needed it!!!!!
My sister was tearful when she told me that Mom said for the first time that she's had enough........
Jill is going to try to get an appointment with the patient advocate.
