Thank you all. I appreciate all of your kind words. The idea about getting another dog would be a good one, but Dave says no more dogs. I kind of agree with him, and after all, I have obtained 17 birds since September. And I have 3 cats.

Tomorrow should be the day, I still have to make the appointment. Angie's D stopped, and her breathing got better. My daughter is telling me it's time anyway. She's right. I may postpone until Saturday...

I'm still

Love, Jean

It is so hard Jean, and you seem to have a great big heart and love all animals, it just never gets any easier to say good-bye.

:comfort:

My :pulsinghearts: goes out to you. And if I could go with you, I would. If your daughter can go with you, or someone that loves him too, it helps to have someone with you.

Today is the day. I have an appointment for Angie at 5:00. She hasn't been eating or pooping for the last two days, so now I know it's time. She has definitely taken a turn for the worse.

I feel a small amount of relief now that I've made the decision. It's going to be hard, but now I know it's right.

I'll be there with you in spirit, Jean. It does sound like Angie is letting you know that she is ready.

Love and lots of bear hugs,

It's done. Angie is now buried in the back yard.

I feel OK because it was the right thing. Thank you all for giving me the courage. Thanks for being there in spirit Polly.

Damn, this is so hard, on all of us. I'm so sorry for what you're going through. no matter how "ready" we think we are, we can never really be prepared. I just did this about 2 years ago with one of my old dogs, and it still hurts terribly to see his photos or hear his name. But I remember when I was trying to decide whether or not to do it I did a lot of reading, and this one poem made me feel so much better:

IF IT SHOULD BE

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand.
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years.
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come -- please let me go.

Take me where my need they'll tend,
And please stay with me till the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve -- it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years;
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

Of course for the past 30 minutes while looking for this I had to read dozens of others, so I'm a blubbering mess now. Please know that we will all share in your pain, and hopefully be able to ease some of yours by doing so.

Sue, that poem brought tears to my eyes, remembering when I had to say good-bye to my Bamm Bamm. He was just the sweetest dog ever. There is only one time he bit me, and I still have the scar. He was getting all these growths on his body, and they would get infected, one on his hind leg was near the ground and it was really bad. I thought okay I will put some disifectant on it. But first I cleaned it, but it must have hurt him and then when I put the stuff on it must have shocked him and he bit me on the hand. He was more upset then I was, he knew that he had hurt me, and he kept walking back and forth and putting his head down, and then looking up at me as if to say he was sorry, it was just a reaction to his pain. And when I see that scar there I know that I did the right thing for him because he had so many more things hurting him too. He also stopping going to the washroom and eating and even drinking. When he looked at me it was like his eyes were asking me to help him, it was the hardest think in the world to do. My SIL is not an animal person and I have never been to her house because I have Pebbles, and she comes with me. There is always some excuse as to why I can't go there, and she doesn't even shed. I just don't understand some people. How do you not get attached to a little cuddly animal??? We are definately a different breed of people. And our animals know it too, as we love them like our own children. My heart goes out to you at this time, but it is the final act of love and kindness that we can do for them, I think they know it too.

Hugs
