I saw a Naturopath today

Post by mle_ii »

I went in to see the Naturopath today. Seemed like he knew his stuff as I asked lots of questions.

Interesting testing that they do. He did some sort of eye and bp test for checking adrenal issues. Noticed that my BP went down when I stood up from laying down, supposed to go up not down. He said that can point to an adrenal issue so I'm getting some blood tests done, already had the blood drawn this morning. Also noticed I'm more sensitive when pressing into my abdomen area in the area just below and near my belly button than I was in other areas. Did some sort of tapping test on my abdomen and that was strange, had areas of higher pitch, said it could mean gas in those areas and also something else.

A few of the sups I took before he recommended me taking again, specfically the glutamine and fish oil caps for GI health. He also recommended a B12 shot for my lower energy, but I'll think about that one. Are there any side effects with a b12 shot? Said I should do it 2 times a week for a month to build up the levels in my body. ???

He also thought that the IgG blood tests would be good for the food intolerances and he made a good point about my gut being permable so in that case it would show up in the blood for those things. Forgot to ask if they needed to be in my regular diet though. He says that he's had pretty good results from this type of testing.

I'm getting Ferritin, VitD, Test, T3, T4, TSH, B-12, Folate and I think that was it that I wanted. Plus he said something about a metabolic panel. Can't remember what. He's sending off for a hair sample kit, on my insistence.

They also sold me some supplement that's supposed to help heal my gut. Thought I'd give it a try. It is Tyler Permeability Factors w/ Glutamine, NAG and Phosphatidylcholine. Here are the contents per 2 softgel caps (he said to take 2 three times a day):
Vitamin E (as d-Alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate) 11 IU
L-Glutamine 500 mg
NAG (N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine) 250 mg
Gamma-Linolenic Acid (as Borage Seed Oil) 133 mg
Gamma Oryzanol (from rice bran) 66 mg
Phosphatidylcholine (from lecithin) 56 mg
Other Ingredients: Gelatin, safflower oil, glycerin, carmel color and titanium dioxide.
Says the contens are free of mil, yeast, corn and gluten.

Any thoughts on this supplement?

Thanks,
Mike

Wow Mike, he is thorough! Yippee....he is checking your adrenals! So many doc's won't even deal with that issue. I have been taking a lot of supplements since learning I have adrenal fatigue. Mega B-12 is one along with Adrenal Recharge (lots of herbs). I have been feeling so much better. I am still being treated for thyroid even though my meds aren't really working and won't until the adrenal's are better.

Please keep us posted....I will be following your results and treatment with much anticipation!

Mike,
I don't know anything about the supplements or tests, but my GI does the "tapping" on the abdomen thing. Lays one hand flat on your abdomen then taps on the back of his hand. If it sounds "hollow" then there is gas accumulation. The first time I saw him I sounded like a ripe watermelon.

The Tyler Permeability Factor supplement that was mentioned is new to me. However, what are they using to get the caramel color? I usually avoid caramel color since it almost always contains wheat.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Yeah, and it seemed strange to me. I did try out one pill 1/2 gram per and noticed a warm and kindof acid sort of reaction. He said if I reacted that way that I was already producing enough acid. I'll try again at another meal to verify though.

I just looked back at previous results, 1999 it was 98, and in 2004 it was 102. So I'm not far off of my "normal".

Did a saliva PH and it was near neutral, and a urine PH and it was a bit acidic, but seemed to be within normal numbers there.

Here's a note from the Nat Dr on my lab results:
Here’s a summary of your labs:
Low Chloride: stomach (acid/hydrochloric acid), adrenals need support
High Protein: Liver, adrenals need support
High Albumin: Liver
High Albumin/Globulin: Liver
Low Alkaline Phosphatase: Low Zinc

Ok, here are more results:
Testosterone Total, 905 ng/dL, 236-1076
% Free Testosterone, 0.81 L, %
Testosterone Free, 72.9 pg/mL, 31.0-160.0

The % free seems to be lower than it should be, but the others are within range.
