How did Thanksgiving go for everyone?

Post by Lucy »

Hi all,

How about a report on your Thanksgiving experience from those who celebrated the day today? Not just talking about the food part, either.

Just was interested in how different families/people did this day this year.

Well, for me, this morning was pretty casual, followed by a GF, SF, DF Thanksgiving dinner, (but I ate too much, naturally). I don't usually work on Thanksgiving, but I had to work for about 5 hours this afternoon, because yesterday I promised a store manager that I would deliver a load to them on Friday morning, (a truck load of cleaned, bagged corn, that is), and there wasn't any left in inventory. After that, I visited with family, for a couple of hours. We sat around an outdoor fireplace for a while, but it finally got too cold, so we moved inside.

Anyway, that was how I spent my day.

Greetings Galahad and Luce---

We had a very nice day-----Lynn cooked up a storm--baked all her goodies--Kristyn was home from college--and she bought be a SYRACUSE Grandmothers Tee-Shirt-- and Kaitlyn was busy crocheting a shawl~~~for one of her church friends daughter that is soon to give birth~~~

We had Turkey----a sweet potato pie---mashed taters---stuffed artichokes----great stuffing I have to add--brussel sprouts and then 3 different types of dessert!!!!!
And from Lou--he described every tasting--CUS I still cannot smell nor taste---

While we at Lynns our neighbor Frank---had his entire family over(at his house) ---so while we were gone Frank made his Turkey at our house--in our oven --cus in his oven they were also making a ham!!!! Usually we are in AZ. at this time and he always asks to use our oven---

This was hysterical---seeing Frank coming over with the covered bird----while Lou and I were getting ready to leave for Lynn's house---when he opened our door--he yelled * I am here*---and I said---*ovens ready for ya*~~~~
If anyone met this family U would all just fall in love with them--his kids are great and Carmela is a total doll----

Needless to say the drivers were a bunch of speed runners---that always scares me--

All in all it was a very nice day---Kaitlyn was up most of the day---and she is amazing----her body hasnt rejected the second contraption--so thankfully her head pain has lessened from a 10 to a 4---and to her --thats *terrific*
And I have to say---my daughter Lynn is totally amazing for all that she has been thru---cus her FAITH never wavered---

Luve Barbara

PS Galahad---Friday night---~~~~~dancing~~~~~~a one and a two and then a spin!!!

Think we're missing a few folks! Ha!
Anyone else have something to report about Thanksgiving?
I've enjoyed hearing from people here and elsewhere about their day yesterday.

it almost gets to the point---my opinion again---well thats one holiday over with--

I know as age starting creeping up on me---I began to dread the *COOKING* part of the holidays--and then after all left--*YIKES*--clean up time--

thankfully Lynn loves to cook so,as I posted, we were there--will be the same for Christmas--

Hi Luce, and everyone...

Thanksgiving was great, but bittersweet for us. Lannie and I just got back from the twin cities visiting my sister, her family and my parents were there also. We had a wonderful visit, good food, drink, fellowship and fun games.

Sadly, we no longer can take trips or even short family outings together since we are caregiving for my husbands Father. I miss that, I know you understand this Luce. Elder care is hard on a family.

All said, life is good. Alan set tulipee nets today by boat- the lake is not frozen so it should be a real challenge checking them in the morning- I offered to help. Last year we were on ice and that was easy. Also, he's muzzle loading in the morning. Hunting even for a few morning and evening hours is a special outlet for anyone who enjoys nature and even more so by a man/ or woman who has made a 24-7 commitment to caring for a parent. We are a part of this and it is so worthwhile, but so hard at times.

Sometimes, I feel sorry for myself, and ashamed about that but I'm thankful for so much today, especially my regained health and all you potty people.

Love,
Joanna

Joan,

Hmmmmm. Maybe there's some sort of epidemic - I seem to have a headache, some bloating , and D, today.

Joanna,

I'm sorry to hear that you have such stringent time demands these days, but I'm glad to hear that your health is good, and whatever the circumstances, it's great to see a post from you, again. It sounds as though you're still enjoying a hunter-gatherer lifestyle, and a paleo diet. Good for you.

I hope you can find more time for yourself, in the future. As you say, caring for a family member can be so intense, that you just have to get away from it, now and then.

Thanks for the update.

Love,
Tex

It was a normal day in Hong Kong, although I tried to order turkey at a restaurant.....impossible as all were pre-prepared with butter. Later watched CNN Heroes. Very inspirational. But I also give thanks to my own heroes, including Potty People led by Tex and any medical professional with an open mind that genuinely searches for truth and the best treatments.

All best, Ant

A good turkey day for us  We had a record-setting crowd of 50 this year @ my aunt's home. Good times, lots of family and friends....my gut is good - and my GF pumpkin cheesecake was one of the dessert "hits" as always - we had 7 types of pie + the cheesecake...

Only 'adventurous' moment was Elyse grabbed an hors d'oeuvre that apparently had nuts in it - so Mike had to trek out to the local smoke shop/liquor store for benadryl as her lips started to swell (and bad mom - I forgot the Epi-pen and benadryl I usually carry  )

Anyways slept well in the hotel - celebrated Elyse's 7th b.day this morning - she opened her gifts over our continental breakfast - the Barbie camper and charm bracelet were *huge* hits
Headed home this afternoon and hope to relax a bit this weekend....

My poor hubby accidentally glutened me. I woke up at 2 a.m. first with hot flashes and dizziness then the bathroom troubles. The big D was finally done around 10:00 a.m. He was cutting the turkey and kept wiping his hands on a towel that he didn't know was on top of the rising dinner rolls earlier. That's our only guess as to what did it since everything but the rolls and various pie's on the own table were glutenous. I told him we still can't be sure. He feels bad but I am just thankful to have such caring people in my life so I'm just letting it go. My mother in law says she's buying pre bought rolls next year, what a sweetie.

I had a really nice Thanksgiving. My son, his wife and 3 and 5 year old grandkids came down from Seattle. His wife and kids are celiacs, so the whole meal was GF. I wasn't able to eat the stuffing because of yeast and corn sensitivities, but that was the only regret. My tummy was very happy, and thanks to Dee's good recipes and cooking hints, we didn't feel a bit deprived.

Another good point was brought up last night, that we ran out of ice (for cocktails and soda's) and we put a bag in the cooler that everyone including me was pulling from. I didn't think that most people had sugar cookies, and egg rolls (pre thanksgiving after noon snacks) in their hands as well. So that sounds more logical....since I would have had to eat the exact same piece of turkey after he dried hands, would have been a crap shoot. Who knows, I hate that my sensitivity level is so high now!

Kathy,

Good detective work - that does sound like a good possibility for causing your reaction, and one that is easily overlooked. There are so many unexpected ways that gluten can sneak into our diets, that if enough people are involved, sometimes it's a miracle if we get by without a reaction. :sigh:
