Still weak and shaky

Post by Carol Arnett »

Hi everyone,
I have not had anymore D but still feel so shaky and weak. Don`t know what to do to get some strength back. It is even a little bit of a struggle to type.
Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving. Love, Carol

Hi Carol,

I've been wondering how you were doing, so I'm glad to see an update, but I'm sorry to see that it's taking so long for you to get your strength and energy back. How's your appetite? Are you eating enough? Remember that you have to eat plenty of meat, and other good sources of protein, to help your body rebuild it's strength. Can you eat fruits? Snacking on fruit during the day is a good way to to provide a healthy source of sugar, for energy, and certain vitamins. Foods such as potatoes and rice, are good for helping to gain your weight back, and provide energy, and veggies help to supply the vitamins you need, and some fiber.

If you're having problems eating enough, and dairy products don't cause problems for you, energy drinks such as Ensure, Boost, or Carnation Instant Breakfast, (in milk, of course), etc., can help to boost your energy level, in a concentrated form, but I would use them in addition to regular meals, rather than in place of regular meals. Of course, if you aren't able to eat much at a meal, then an energy drink is certainly much better than eating nothing, or very little.

I hope you can start getting stronger, so that you will feel more like doing things. Once you start feeling more like doing a few things, the exercise will help your appetite, so that you will eat more, and improve faster.

Thanks for the update, and please take good care of yourself.

Love,
Tex

Hi Tex,

I have a very good appitite and am eating everything in sight. I am also eating Yogurt (350 calories) everday and at least one Insure a day. That also is high calorie. I am not using either for food replacement.

I checked all my meds on line to see if any of them cause weakness or tremors and none do. I keep reminding myself that I have been sick since July 15 and was in the hospital for 6 weeks. I guess it will all come back in time.

I appreciate your input always. Love, Carol

Dear Carol,

It was sure good to see you posting again. I know it's frustrating to feel weak and shakey, but you do have to remember what all you've be through. Please give yourself some time to get back to where you were before you got sick. Since you were sick for so long I'm sure it's hard to remain patient.

I hope that each day is a better one for you. :butterfly:

Carol,

At this point it's difficult to say if you are weak and shaky from your long hospital stay, or if those symptoms are being caused by the budesonide. There are many side effects of budesonide that are not well publicized, and many are not included on all lists of side effects. However, budesonide can indeed cause weakness and tremors, in some patients. If you look at enough lists of possible side effects, you will notice that some of them include the word "asthenia". Asthenia is a medical term denoting symptoms of physical weakness and loss of strength. And, if you look under neurological, (or nervous system), side effects, you will see "tremors" listed.

Time will tell. The weakness and tremors should slowly go away, if they're not due to the budesonide. If those symptoms continue without letup, though, then you may have to consider that the budesonide could be the cause.

Love,
Tex

Hi Carol,
I am so glad you are home. Being weak and shaky is hard to deal with. You have been through so much I'm sure your body needs time to adjust.
Tex mentioned the Entocort side effects. I don't know if you are taking more than one pill per day. Some doctors say to take all of it in the morning but it might help the side effects to take each Entocort pill with a different meal.
Anyway, glad you are back.

Thanks everyone,

Tex, I sure hope you are not right on this one. I am taking 2 pills a day but am considering going down to one tomorrow and see what happens. The doc took me down to one in the hospital and that evening I had D again. That was about 4 weeks ago so wish me luck. Love, Carol

Carol,

I sure hope that the medication is not the problem. I'm afraid that it may be too soon to wean down to one pill per day, at this point, though.

I certainly wish you the best of luck, though, in whatever you try. :xfingers:

Tex

P. S. I know that you feel that you're not sensitive to gluten, (and it's certainly possible that you might not be - a test at Enterolab would be an easy way to rule that out, once and for all), but I have a very strong gut feeling, that if you were to cut gluten completely out of your diet, then after a couple of months, you would be able to cut down to only one pill per day, and after a few more months, you might be able to completely stop using budesonide, and remain in remission.

Hello Carol, we haven't met yet here, I am Harma and quite new here. I followed your story while you were in Hospital. Good to hear you are home again now. About the possible side effect of Entocort. After I was diagnosed I immediatly started with two pills a day. The side effects were so bad in my case, I switched to one a day. I am that lucky one a day works for me too. But considering the side effects is was a difference of day and night: one pill nothing, two pill drama. My side effects where a bit different than yours, no tremor or feeling week, but also a kind of overall feeling of misery, I described it as a combination of being drunk and having a hangover.

So I do hope, one pill less will also make a big difference for you too and you will feel well again soon.
