My new treatment

Post by Pat »

I have hesitated to say anything about my new treatment because it always seems that whatever I try seems to help at first and then after awhile it was just wishful thinking.

In early Nov. I went to a new Dr. to get my bioidentical hormones. I had been going to a Dr. out of town and it was just too much hassle to do that any more (not to mention the expense). I found out that a local dr. was prescribing them so I went to him just for that. Of course my health history had to be examined and he asked a lot of questions about the MC. I explained all that I had tried - all the drugs and diets, etc. I told him I was not there for the MC. I was getting by with a limited diet of meats, very well cooked veggies( only broccoli, cauliflower, turnips, and some asparagus), breads ( I do better with gluten than without), buckwheat cereal. No fruit, no dairy. He asked me if I would be open to a blood test. I had met my deductible so I said sure why not. He said it was for some things I had not been tested for before. It came back that I am very deficient in IgA. It was 1/2 the minimum. He said that it was possible that was why I had MC in the first place. He offered gamma globulin shots once a week. He said I could try them and should see improvement in just a few weeks. If I didn't I could stop. I have had 4 shots and I am not 100% normal but I am better. I seem to be able to eat more things. For instance I have been able to eat oranges. My BM's are not solid but I guess I would say they are getting closer. The first two shots were only 1 cc because he wanted to be sure I was not going to have an adverse reaction and the last two have been 2 cc. I guess time will tell if this is for real.

Dear Pat,

I sure hope this works for you. I know all that you have been through and all the traveling around the State that you have done. I have fingers and toes crossed for you.

Thanks, Jan. Did I read that you are eating paleo now? Or did I imagine it.

That's pretty much what I've been doing. I'm like you in that I do better with some gluten in my diet. Other than that it's pretty much a meat and veggie diet. I do good as long as I stay away from oats and spinach. I still don't tolerate raw veggies as well as I did before the onset of this but still indulge in a salad now and then. I just take an immodium before I eat and that seems to take care of it.

I'm glad you seem to be putting some of the weight back on.

Pat,

This is an interesting turn of events. I don't understand why your doctor feels that an IgA deficiency could increase the chances of developing MC, (unless maybe he's thinking of something such as SIBO). I also don't understand why he feels that gamma globulin injections would help to control the symptoms of MC, but then, there are a lot to things in this world that I don't understand. LOL.

At this point, anything promising, is certainly worth trying. Are you aware that Lyn is severely IgA deficient, also?

Good luck with the treatment.

Pat,

I'm keeping my :xfingers: that this will resolve your issues. I think about you a lot and wonder how you're doing. I'm glad that you are putting on some weight.

I'm amazed that you are able to eat oranges! I'm sure you're thrilled about being able to eat some fruit.

Keep us posted - you know that we are all interested in knowing what has worked and what has not.

Hi Pat,

I believe that she is both IgA and IgG deficient, a condition known as CVID, (Common Variable Immune Deficiency). Her username is Bifcus16. She wrote the last post in the thread at the link below, so you can send her an e-mail, or a PM, by clicking on the appropriate button at the bottom of her post:
