colonoscopy screenings

Post by garon929 »

Hi there,

I am currently not seeing a GI doc, I have a mild case of MC that I can manage with diet and I am not on any meds. My last colonoscopy was almost two years ago, done when I was experiencing a significant flare, and it showed inflammation throughout my colon. I've been more or less in remission since then, with occasional flares.

My biggest question is about colonoscopy screenings for cancer. From what I understand, MC doesn't seem to increase the chance for colon cancer, but who knows for sure? Has any one heard if people with MC should follow the 10 year screening rule (if there is no other reason for a colonoscopy) or if we should have one more often?

Thanks!

Hi,

As you are probably aware, there is also an increased risk of Non-Hodgkins lymphoma, for anyone with gluten sensitivity. However, research has shown that when the symptoms of gluten sensitivity are effectively controlled, that increased risk is abolished, (and that also applies to those who are asymptomatic without intervention).

As far as I am aware, (and I believe that Polly feels the same way about this), there is no need to accelerate the scheduling of colonoscopy exams, simply because we have MC. If anyone has reliable information to the contrary, I would certainly appreciate being made aware of it.

It's good to hear that you're able to effectively control your symptoms by diet alone.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
