Gloria,

Most people will say that it's impossible to not have enough sugar in the diet, because the body converts carbs into sugar. Since you are eating no fruit, though, and no cereal grains, (except for rice cakes), IMO, it's possible that you might have that problem, (depending on how much mashed potato and asparagus you ate for dinner). Mashed potatoes have a pretty high glycemic index rating, so you could have run out of fuel from them, relatively quickly, I suppose, though I'm not sure that you should have run out "right after dinner". Asparagus has a low index rating, so it should last much longer, but the amount eaten would determine the available glucose level, that it might provide.

The bottom line is, it's difficult to say, with any certainty, because, we all have different rates of metabolism, and we're talking in terms of relative values, here, rather than precise numbers.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Dear Friends,

(Earlier I posted this in another place, but it might be more consistent to post this here.....)

Well, I bought some Boswellia Serrate today. I plan to take 200 mg per day for the next 2 weeks while SLOWLY tapering off Entocort. For the last two days I have reduced Entocort from 3 to 2 per day and if all goes OK will reduce from 2 to one in two weeks time. IF this does not work I am going to give in and try out what my GI wants me to do: i.e. move gradually from Entocort to Salofalk/Asacol.

For the last 6 weeks have only had 2 Ds and 85% of my BMs have been firm or firmish, so I feel I can try this. x fingers

Well, I guess we had the same idea. I ordered some a day or so ago. I hope it works for both of us.

Dear Shirely

Sure hope so...... Do you think that 200 mg per day is enough? The label says I should take one or two a day (two would = 400 mg per day).

Best wishes, Ant

I'm wandering around in the dark with this. Mine haven't come yet from Vitamin Shop but it says they are 250mg. I didn't find where the recommended dosage was listed. I honestly don't know if that is a good dosage or not. Tex said he had to take a good bit more than the recommended dose to see a difference in his joint pain and such. Maybe it won't take as much for the gut. I have no idea. We'll just have to play around with it I suppose.

Don't forget to post how you are doing with it and I'll do the same. I hope mine comes this week but not sure.

Dear Shirley

Looking back to Harma's original post on this.....

http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11025

...the trial is for BSE 400 mg three times a day for 6 weeks. That seems more than the suggestion of my one or two 200 per day or your one or two 250 per day. :???:

I have already upped to 200 twice a day (i.e. 400 mg per day), but maybe it should be at a much higher dose? Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

400mg x 3 times a day seems to be the most commonly quoted figure.

It sounds like there are some studies which have used much more - up to 3600mg a day.

This isn't a very scholarly article, but it is interesting: http://www.cancersalves.com/botanical_a ... ellia.html.

Thanks Lyn,

That would seem about right. Here are three more links

http://www.raysahelian.com/boswellia.html

http://boswelliaserrata.org/boswellia-dosage.html

http://vitamins.ultimatefatburner.com/b ... tract.html

What I cannot get at is if there is any contraindication for Boswellia with Entocort and/or Asacol - seems like that has not been specifically checked out.

Hi all, It's not as simple as one might expect. There is the gum, then the extract, finally the different acids used in the extract from the gum. At the time I did my trial with Boswellia, not a lot of detailed information was available. Or, I was unable to locate the information.

The trials seem to indicate a good result, but Boswellia did little, if anything, to help me with my LC symptoms. I used the 5 Loxin variety of Boswellia from Vitacost.com.

I would like to encourage you to give it a try. It is an all natural product and it may be able to help many of us. As an additional benefit, I never had a headache while I was taking it.

Good luck, I'll be watching your results.

Thanks Hotrod,

Can you remember what dose you took? If it was low, maybe a higher dose would have worked?

Ant, If memory serves, it was 400 mg 3 times per day. In another post a few days ago, Tex listed the links to 4 of my posts where I listed the dosage and the type of Boswellia.

I have had excellent results from Entocort. I am on 9mg per week at present. I understand you have not been able to achieve good results from Entocort, so maybe the Boswellia will work for you. The more choices we have, the better.

Hotrod, thanks.

My results with Entocort have not been bad (much better than anything else so far). But I have been on 9gm for seven and half months and my GI wants me to taper off and switch to Asacol and my GP will not disagree with him saying I have to go through him....

Ant, MC remission is a bumpy road is it not????

Sorry I can't offer some useful advice for you. You seem to have a particularly difficult case. You just have to keep trying to eliminate foods and taking medications. Maybe Asacol will help you. It seems, if I remember correctly, that few have found it useful. But hey, you might be the exception. All of us on this board are pulling for you to find your solution. Best of luck.

Dear Hotrod

Thanks, yup it is a hard road, but I am not in a flare and can go about normal life. It is nothing compared to what many others and Tex especially are having to deal with at the moment.

All best, Ant.

That's how I feel, too. I wish the road were easier, but there is always someone else who has it worse. I'm happy that I can resume living a normal life, too.

My heart goes out to Tex also. He has given his all to this board - it's hard to accept that he is going through such an ordeal righ now.
