Manager Training@#$%@*&
My Boss today told me she is recomending me for Managers training....she had mentioned me taking over her position so that she can go to another store. I still can't decide if I want that responsibility. I told her I would take the manager training but did not want her position (Top Manager) I appreciate her thinking I can do the job...it's just a bit scarey. We need a Monster emoticon Tex. Anyway You are my family and I am so uncertain what to do. I know that things need to change in that store somewhat but am I the person to do this....... or am I just ? I do not know. There's one difficult person that will go with her when she leaves. That leaves only one and she will Kiss a if she thought it would get her where she thinks she needs to be. My manager wants me to be the new manager.....I need help Love Oma
May I be more compassionate and loving than yeterday*and be able to spot the idiots in advance
Dear Herb Lady lol sounding like Dear Abby!!
It sounds like this person finds you quite capable and reliable for the said position. It is ultimately up to you but maybe a trial run to see how you feel about this would help?
The way I see it is this: YOU GO GIRL!

Would it hurt to give a try and do it on a trial basis? You might find it stressful, but then again you might find it highly rewarding. I bet you are more than capable, you must be because you haven't been there all that long and they are obviously very impressed by you! Ultimately you need to decide what is best for you.
Whatever you decide I'm behind you all the way
Love,

Oma,
Maybe the big boss could take Mz.Kiss-a-Frog with her, too. Could you ask her to do that? Ha!
K.A.F. might end up being your boss if you don't get the job. Ever think about THAT? Ya sure don't want her bein' the frog! Ha!
Hmm, why does your current boss wanna change stores? Does she live closer to the other store? If not, then ya gotta wonder WHAT it is she wants to leave.
Do ya think ya might be too soft to be a boss? Ya gotta be tough, but fair it seems to me.
On the other hand, managerial experience would look good on your resume. Just a thought.
Now, it's up to you, but what does hubby think? Also, would the money make it worth while?
Yours, Luce

Like the others have said...it could be a GOOD thing being the boss...after all a lot of work stress can come from the boss! Of course there is a stress level when your employees mess up or are pains in the butt....I had a guy screw up last week, and I spent half of this week trying to fix it! Now I've got to go to work on Sunday to write the report that should be otherwise complete. But hey, pay should be better too.
I think if you have doubts, a trial run is appropriate. How long is your current boss going to be there still? Maybe have her let you do her job for a week while she is right there to oversee...have her be you. Maybe a bit longer if that first week goes all right. Its hard to know how long it takes to see if something is a good thing or not.

Well, I am thinking a couple different ways about this.
First, of course it is a compliment to be asked to be a manager and speaks to the fact that you are very capable, probably overqualified for your current job. Thus manager would be more challenging and more rewarding.
Second, this isn't the job you really love--from reading the forum over the years I think you really loved the animal hospital. So maybe even though it is challenging and rewarding manager may not be that satisfying.
Third, if the pay is significantly better, it might be worth doing for a while, to give a boost to the old savings account! If you don't like it, then the person can be next in line.
OK, I've sorted out my thoughts. It comes down to: is the $$$ worth the effort?
Good luck making your decision. P.S. Does your hubby have an opinion?

I really don't have much to add to what the others have said. I was in that position once, Oma, but, fortunately or unfortunately, my gut made the decision for me. That is when I was at my worst with my MC. I was not at all sure that that was what I wanted to do either.
Yes, WHY is your boss leaving? Good question.
And, as Hazel said, this is not a job that you love like the animal shelter. How much of yourself do you want to invest in this?
I will tell you about my son that works at Intel and makes gobs of money. He hates it, but has become addicted to living a certain life style so he goes in there to work every day. I wish he would quit beating himself up over it.
I think a trial run would be good if your boss is cooperative. Although if it were me, I would listen to myself. If you have that many doubts about it maybe it is not the right thing to do. I don't have any doubts about your being ABLE to do the job, it's a question of do you really want to? Listen to your heart as well as your head.
But, in the end, it is still up to you.
Lots of love,
Sally

Hi Oma,
Ok, here's my 2 cents worth on this question, and remember, that's all my opinion is worth in this case, since I'm not in your shoes, and can only guess at how it will really affect you, especially in the long run.
Bear in mind, that whether you particularly enjoy your present position or not, once you acquire the title of manager, it's a different ball game, and you will have a very valuable addition to your resume. It could be a stepping stone that would allow many new doors to open for you, for example, if you wanted to seek employment elsewhere. Good managers are almost always in demand, in many/most types of businesses.
True, you would have new responsibilities, but you strike me as a "self-starter", and I believe you are up to the challenge. The only real drawback with being a manager, is that, (as they say), if the train jumps the track, there's no question about who catches Hell. It's obvious that you take your duties seriously, and IMHO, I don't believe the train is likely to jump the track on your watch. IOW, I think you would make a good manager.
The bottom line is, what type of environment do you prefer to work in? Do you prefer to follow orders, and put in your time, and then forget about the job, after the 5 o'clock whistle blows, or would you rather be the captain of the ship, where you make the decisions, and the crew comes to you, when they need answers.
Good managers need to be problem solvers, and they need to be diplomats, (they need to be able to inspire coworkers to be team players, without suppressing anyone's initiative). I think you have those qualities. That said, only you can decide what you really prefer to do. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the very best, and I'm confident that you will make the right decision.
Love,
Wayne

Well Boss's Boss wants her to go to another city and take over a store. That's what I am told which will help her climb the ladder. The person will not be going with her. Boss has to train me......I can always do the trial run thing as was mentioned in responses by my family here. Right now she has only reccommended me...they still have to contact me and make offers etc. Yes the animal shelter is my first love....the one closest to us have employee's that don't quit...there's no job opening til someone dies. Plus.....is is a kill shelter. I couldn't do that....so I still haven't decided but I have a few days to think it over...at least until after the reunion in August. But I so much love to get feedback from you guys.....by no means can you all make my decisions for me and neither would I ask....but your feedback helps me to think it all over. Hubby says about the same as you all do. And in the end is my decision....I hate these decisions. Love Oma

Who is this person? You must have talked about her before I came to the board.
Don't think about this decision anymore for now. I have the feeling that when the time comes, you will know exactly what to do. For now, rest your neck.
Lots of love,
Sally

The frog person is a woman I work with....I referred to her a person that would basically kiss a frog if she thought it would get her somewhere. She's a back stabber and I keep a close eye on her. But I am smarter than her...and you are right Sally...I will stop thinking on it for now and let the decision make it self. Love Oma
