This Has Been Quite An Adventure  To Say The Least

Post by tex »

Hi All,

I haven't had a chance to read anything on the board, yet, (there are around 500 new posts that I will eventually try to get around to reading), and I really don't feel up to doing much at all, yet, but I thought I would try to post something, since I'm so glad to be able to log on once again, (about a week ago, it appeared that I might have logged on for the last time :sigh: ).

I'm still so weak that if I were a newborn baby, I wouldn't have the strength to even cry, but I'm getting better, day by day. I had some good old eggs and bacon for breakfast, about 5 hours ago, and a couple of hours ago, I finished off some fried chicken and mashed potatoes, for lunch - it doesn't get any better than that.

I just wanted to express how grateful I am for all the prayers and good wishes of each and every one of you, and point out that they were obviously quite effective, because I'm still here, and I'm still able to send my love and appreciation, in return.

I truly appreciate all the cards that were sent. To be honest, I still don't have the energy to "tackle" them, yet, but I'm anxious to go through them, and enjoy them, as I get stronger, and start feeling better. I'm not sure why I feel so weak and "out of it" - maybe my body has to become acclimated to my "new" blood, and it has to become acclimated to me. I'm not sure whether I still have any of my original blood or not.

And Polly,

I especially appreciate the time and effort you spent updating the board, on my condition, and I appreciate your valuable insight and encouragement, when I was "down and out."

I have days of reading to do, to catch up on everything, and little energy to draw from, (plus I spend a lot of time changing the packing in wounds, and cleaning a new ileostomy appliance), so please be patient if I'm slow to respond.

Much love to all of you, my dear family, wherever you are,
Tex

P. S. I hope that those of you who live in all those frozen, snowed-in cities, aren't having any problems with power, heat, or food supplies. We're forecast to have a frozen mix, tonight, tomorrow, and tomorrow night, but at least it won't be freezing all the time, so we shouldn't have any accumulation problems - at least not this far south.

it is soo lovely to see you back on line. Listen to your body and rest up and recouperate, it has been through quite a bit in the past month.

once you do read the posts you will see there was big conversation and we were horrified that the hospital couldnt feed you.... I wanted to fed ex you some yummy soup so we could get you well again!!!
Rest up - the posts will not go anywhere and you may need a bit of energy to read them as there are a few laughs in there

take care

Great to have you back and posting, Tex! It's no wonder you feel weak with all you've been through. We all understand that it will take some time before you have enough energy to do more than the bare minimum. But it must feel soooo much better to be home, and "crawled under your own porch"!

Tex!

How wonderful to see you back on the Board! But please take it easy and only do things that don't tire or stress you out. That means NO TAXES. LOL! With all of that good home cooking you should get your energy back in no time.

You are very welcome, of course. I was happy to be able to help out.

Since you mentioned it, you probably have lost more than half of your blood. An average 70 kg. man has about 5 liters, or 5000 ml. If the unit of blood was about a pint, that would be 473 ml. Six units would be 2838 ml. And if you had 8 units replaced, that's an even higher %. No wonder you are so wiped out. Losing that amount of blood is a major trauma.

Love to a very dear friend,

Polly

Awwwwwww! There you are dear friend!!
Have to admit that I am typing thru "happy" !
You feel so weak & tired because you have been thru quite the ordeal and take as much time as you need to rest & heal. Your strength & energy will come in due time.
I was ready to take a :cowboy2: and take charge of the dietary department at your hospital for pete's sake.
Sounds like you did have some yummies to eat today!
Take Care

It's soooo nice to see you post, Tex! You've had quite an ordeal and need to take it easy for a while.

I'm so happy to read that you're enjoying good food again. The hospital didn't seem to have a clue.

I hope you mend quickly and aren't in too much pain.

Tex,

So glad you are home and resting and that your family is near to help.

I was really struck by the closeness of "this family" following you through your hospitalization. I, like most others on this board, have never met you, and probably never will. Yet the bond that everyone feels runs deep. I am sure that others were like me, checking in more often, anxiously waiting for updates. We were all so relieved that you pulled through that horrific experience.

Take good care of yourself and don't push too hard.

I feel like a HUGE hole has been refilled!!!!

Please take care of yourself. It will take some time and tender loving care to get your strength back and feel "normal" again. Allow yourself that, please.
