Discovered any new, safe foods lately?
I thought I'd start this thread. I'm always curious to find new, safe foods. I know my diet can use the diversity!
Here are my three new ones:
Prosciutto (DeLallo). Made from pork, salt and water. It's nice to have a lunchmeat that I can eat, even if I don't know what to put it on. Some brands are safe, some aren't.
Mayonnaise (Spectrum Canola). Ingredients; expeller pressed canola oil, pasteurized whole eggs, filtered water, honey, distilled white vinegar, sea salt, dry mustard, lemon juice concentrate. This stuff tastes great! The first time I tried it, I just dipped shrimp in it plain because it was so good to taste mayo again.
Izze sparkling juice. Comes in glass pop bottles, which is fun, but tastes like what Polly has been making for years. I won't buy it again. Ingredients: carbonated water, a mixture of fruit juice plus natural flavor.

Namaste muffin mix
Jean-
This is new to me. I got it at Whole Foods yesterday. Ingredients are as follows: Sweet rice flour, brown rice flour, evaporated cane juice, tapioca flour, arrowroot flour, rice milk powder, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt, xanthan gum, and vanilla. Says it's gluten, wheat, potato, soy, corn, dairy and casein free. Calls for adding eggs, oil and water but egg substitute directions are given. I haven't made it yet but it sounds reasonably tolerated.
Also, Abraham's makes a proscuitto. They use to sell the slices at my Trader Joe's but now they only sell the diced version. It's GF.

Sally......TROUBLE....that's what I've been making for years!
Actually, I think Jean means my homemade "sodas" - made with 1/2 fruit juice and 1/2 sparkling water. I have recently discovered some AWESOME fruit juices (nectars really) that come from Belgium and are made by "Looza". There are some that have only fruit nectar and sugar - mango, peach, black currant, pear, apricot. My most favorite is pear "soda" made with 1/2 pear nectar and 1/2 sparkling mineral water. These nectars are expensive but worth every penny!
Jean, good idea to start this thread! Can't think of anything new just now - at least nothing without rice flour. (The Namaste pancake/waffle mix and the Whole Foods ready-made carrot cake are good, but both contain rice flour). I still find that a medjool date makes a wonderful dessert. And I just ordered myself another 3 lb. box of pure maple sugar candy from VT.
Love,
Polly

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
Good answer, Polly!
Does anyone know of a good barbeque sauce? I found one, but my store stopped carrying it; Ray's Taste of the South, Mild. It is made with sugar.
Dave has been making homemade sauce and it sucks. I haven't had the heart to tell him because it is so seldom that he helps with the cooking.

My bil made my sis and I some muffins a while back, and I'm pretty sure he made them from the Namaste mix with the egg replacement you mentioned. I thought they were really good, but then I've only had THREE baked items in the sweets category since Thanksgiving of 2003!
Not sure what, if anything, he might've added to the mix, though.
Jean, I'm going to start a new post with the name of a BBQ & Grill Sauce to see if anyone's tried it. I've not opened this bottle as I accidently opened TWO bottles of Amy's recently and need to use those up first.
See ya there.
Yours, Luce
