Twin Baby deer on highway
Howdy...there I was riding along at 70 mph on the highway that leads to my county road, singing along to "til you come back to me again" By Garth Brooks. I looked over to the left and in the rain there was a doe with her yearlying from last year and a set of twins still in the spots. What a beautiful moment it was. They were fixin to cross the road I think but my truck scared them back into the brush. Momma Quail is still setting the nest in the smoker. 11 eggs. She leaves to go do whatever quail do and is there every night when we check. The dogs were outside with us in their pen when Buck saw a rabbit...it just stopped and looked at us,They know Buck and JAsmine can't get out to chase them. But when Buck charges the fence they run anyway. I just love it out here. There were some different birds out when we went outside ...couldn't see them but could hear. I told mike it sounded like a forrest out there....he said suits me...anyway, have a great night all Love Oma

What a lovely moment for you to share, Oma. I closed my eyes and I could see them there by the side of the road. Save that memory to remember when you are feeling all frazzled out.
How soon will it be before the eggs hatch? In Tennessee, quail are called bob-whites. That is because their call sounds like somebody singing "bob WHITE!" Do yours do the same?
Lots of love,
Sally

She is Bob White. She has eleven egg and I am not sure how long she will set....Mike and I are still learning about this crp program and about the birds. I just came in from checking her nest and she was out feeding. Thanks Sally for reminding me about mother earth...I have some herbs I must return to her as they are old and were compromised and I am afraid to use them. There's a prayer I say when I do. Anyway Must run for now. Love Oma

Oma,
Well you know she doesn't have to sit on the eggs to keep them warm this summer! I sure hope they don't cook (eggs usually need to stay at about 90-95 degrees, at least parrots).
Come to Michigan, you'll see so many deer that you get tired of them. Especially the one(s) that eat all the buds off of my plants. And I live in the city.
Love, Jean

How amazing OMA! What a treat and twins too......LUCKYYYY!
Portland has little pockets of forest through out the city. Nike has its head quarters right here in Beaverton. They own a piece of property across the street that is dense forest. The refuse to sell it or build on it because of the wildlife that live there. I hope it stays that way cuz once in awhile we get to see a deer or coyote.
Hugs!

It is neat to see the wildlife as it was intended. I hope it stays that way for you Lori. Momma Quail has her eggs in the smoker as I said but it was tipped slightly and leaned against a wood pile before she nested so she has free acess in and out of her nest and a breeze when we have one plus shade. SO I think she'll be fine. My Min-pin Buckmaster has been eating alot of grass lately...sometimes theuy eat grass for fiber and not necesarily because they have a sour stomache...but he threw up a big wade of it on my quilt on my bed. He appears to be fine...no temp, gums are pink and he's eating and drinking...I will watch and have the vet check him out when we board them. I will cut thier treats waaayyy down this week, They worry me told Mike it's like when our kids were little and they got sick. Love Oma
