Bev got a care package too!

Post by bevfromwa »

I was reading the posts about Tex's package from Australia, so neat! Well, now I get to share something--my daughter and her BF flew up to WA from San Francisco yesterday to visit for the weekend. I am exactly 3 weeks into my new regime, started after getting my lab results, and admit to being pretty hungry (lost 4 #) and depressed for the first week, until Dee came to my rescue with recipes and I found sources to buy what I needed. So Stacy dumped an armload of packages in my lap when she arrived. She had sought out an expert at Whole Foods in SF--we don't have one anywhere near here--and brought me all kinds of goodies, all appropriate for my intolerances. In an effort to use rather than discard some things I can no longer eat, hubby made his famous (sniff!) white chocolate brownies for desert, thought I'd just skip dessert because didn't have anything I could eat. So you can imagine what a treat it was for me to have something special just for me. Isn't family support great? Bev

Sounds wonderful. I am happy for you.

Now if those brownies were real chocolate, then I'd feel sorry for you.

We found that our gelato shop was open today. Yea. The owner had said they wouldn't open until March 15th. He only had two flavors of sorbetto (DF), though. I'm a happy camper.

That's great news. Good for your daughter.

Maybe that white chocolate brownie recipe could be converted to a GF, DF, SF version. Dee isn't able to post much right now, due to a special project that she's helping with, but I'll bet that if you PM'ed her, she could give you some valuable tips on how to modify that recipe to make it safe for you, without significantly diminishing it's original gourmet appeal.

The Trader Joe's GF Brownies are fabulous. I add toasted coconut.

Nice to have a thoughtful daughter - you did something right.

One of my daughters found the Betty Crocker gluten free brownies at the store. She not only purchased them, but went home & cooked them and brought them over! Sure made my day!

I've never come across a good one. How about using the "drool" icon?

Hi There Bev!
Send me hubby's recipe for his while chocolate brownies and I'll try to convert it for you!!!
Soon the Jewish markets, etc, will be carrying dairy, soy & corn free products for Passover so we may be able to luck out and find things that we can use during this time.
I know that Leiber's make a safe, white, chocolate chip during Passover.

I know that these are expensive, but when I spoke to the owner in person, she advised me that all can be frozen.... http://www.choclat.com/Passover/passover.php
I was in there a couple weeks ago and bought a couple bags of the GF/DF/SF chocolate chips to try and they put Enjoy Life ones to shame..

Wow - that is a wonderful gift.......

it is funny now, every time i am in a new shopping centre i check out the health food stores etc and see what products they have.
i get a bit excited when i find a new product that is on the allowable list.

with some time and patience you can adjust reciepes, i find now i dont remember how it used to taste, anything different that is within the allowable ingredients taste good,

enjoy your cook up!

The Enjoy Life ones should be ashamed for being so micro mini. I can't tolerate them anyhow.

Speaking of Enjoy Life, does anyone eat their bars? I've been eating the sunbutter ones and find they are shrinking. Some are really tiny. Yes, I wrote to them. They wanted the info off the box which I didn't keep. I do have the bars and need to find a good governmental place to weigh them. EL said they should be 1oz. but I don't think they comply.

Even the owner of the health food thought the two we brought in were too small.

Joan,

Your state Department of Agriculture, Division of Weights & Measures, is responsible for regulating all commercial trade dealing with weights and measures, in your state. In Texas, any business, or any resident, can request an investigation of a packaging violation, if weights are found to be short, or labels are found to be incorrect, or any other packaging violation is found. Labeling violations may be handled by another division, but it is all within the regulatory responsibility of your state Dept. of Agriculture. In Texas, the process can be initiated by a phone call, or examples can be sent to the appropriate address within the offices of the regulatory agency.
