I think I may try to take some cinnamon each day. I'll be the guinea pig this time, Tex! Rosie and Gabes, you are too funny! Chocolate and mothers-in-law. Tee Hee.

I was reading your info, Tex, from Sloan-Kettering and realized that the Ceylon cinnamon was preferred over the cassia cinnamon in order to minimize the risk of side effects. The McCormick cinnamon I have now is the cassia variety, so I'll have to order the other kind online.

Cristi, Good luck with your new treatment! Will keep my fingers crossed. Your question about the probiotics by suppository makes sense. There may be even more involved to making probiotics "stick". Were you around when we discussed this some time ago? Some researchers in England have found that the gut bacteria are somehow initially sensitized by the mother's GI tract before they enter the baby. During one's lifetime, once these sensitized bacteria are destroyed (by antibiotics or whatever) any new strains of bacteria simply do not work the same way. That's why probiotics must be taken forever to keep replacing the good bacteria. These researchers are trying to sensitize a probiotic by passing it through a human GI tract before packaging it for use.

I think gas from undigested food or gas-producing microorganisms is a common cause of bubbles in the stool.

Polly...are you still taking the custom probiotics? I was looking around for probiotics and found Natren Bifido Factor and it uses garbonzo bean extract in it's formula. I wonder if that is intentional given your discussion about lectins and how they adhere to the gut. Do you think the bean lectin is being used to attach the probiotic to the intestinal wall?

I was thinking about parasites last night and I remember the first thing I did as a married woman was go to the humane society in Columbus Ohio and adopt Suzie....the sweetest little terrier mix...love at first sight. Well, she had a terrible case of worms and we de-wormed her numerous times but she was still having problems. Well, one evening we were watching TV when we heard her scream under the sofa we were sitting on and felt her bump the underside of the sofa. We lifted up the sofa to get at her and this terrible stench met us and there she was alive (thankfully) but she had bitten through the lamp's electrical cord and shocked herself. Well, long story short, she never had worms after that. So, I told my husband that I could use that as plan D...if all else fails I'll chew a cord :)

I am going to put an extra shake of cinnamon in my walnut milk from now on.
