Kids tummy bugs tied to irritable bowels

Post by Gabes-Apg »

in many other articles (and our discussions) they mention that IBS can be undiagnosed MC - i wonder how many of the people they claim have IBS have had colonscopy with appropriate biopsy to confirm the diagnosis...mmmmmmm

Sometimes even with colonoscopy (or endoscopy for CD) lesions can be missed. MC and CD tend to be patchy and require alot of samples by a very skilled doc who knows what to look for.

I also think there's quite a large population of people with "mild IBS" (like my husband) who never seek any medical opinion. My husband clearly has GI issues, but it has never progressed to the point of making his life so miserable that he seeks medical treatment, and for him that's the only reason that requires a trip to the doctor.

Mary Beth,

I think you're right, in suggesting that a lot of GI docs really don't recognize the signs to look for, and by not taking enough biopsy samples, or not taking them from optimum locations, they run the risk of missing the markers, and misdiagnosing the disease.

I'm pretty sure that a lot of men have that attitude. I know that in my case, if I had been able to find a way to get the D to stop, I never would have gone to see a doctor about it.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
