According to studies done at Duke University Medical Center, significant consumption of High Fructose Corn Syrup, (HFCS), can cause the same type of liver fibrosis as excessive intake of alcohol.

What I'm wondering, is why it took researchers over 30 years to get around to discovering this, (and where has the FDA been, all this time). In the meantime, over 30% of the population now has irreversible liver damage, due to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, (though surely there are other causes, besides HFCS).
