Happy First Day Of Spring

Post by tex »

Hi All,

Well, it's officially the first day of spring. The trees are leafing, the peach trees and various other trees and shrubs are blooming, the new corn crop is emerging, and everything is getting green, here in Central Texas.

Unfortunately, somebody forgot to tell the weather, apparently, because we've got a fresh norther, blowing about 25 mph, (with gusts to around 40), and the temperature is steadily falling. We've had a lot of cold rain, but northwest of us, it's snowing.

Most of the green stuff, and the peach blooms, etc., are going to freeze tonight, and again tomorrow night, so I reckon we can forget about a peach crop again this year. :sigh: This promises to be an interesting spring. Who decided that spring should begin this early in the year, anyway? :headscratch:  :monkey:

I'm pretty sure that the real spring will eventually arrive - I'm just not sure when it's going to happen. I hope it's warmer where you are, on this first day of spring. Easter is right around the corner.

LOL, spring in Kansas....8 inches of snow and counting. This is what our first day of spring is like, lol. We are absolutely not going anywhere today!

Hope everyone else has a better day of it, but sounds like this snow storm is going to move on east.

75 and gorgeous here in MD. But I don't feel guilty after that snowiest winter ever we just had.

Happy spring!

Love,

Polly

I feel your pain Tex. Just cancelled my annual spring break picnic in Brenham to see the bluebonnets - pretty sure they will stay hidden until mid April this year

Pretty nice here in SW Ohio. Even opened the windows for a while this afternoon to let the fresh air in! I really hope the Texas peaches don't freeze. That's a cryin' shame!

Hi Tex - I'm new to this group. Yep - it's freezing with that wind blowing - a good day to stay indoors and listen to Central Texas Gardener!

I couldn't upload a new Avatar today. I sized it to 80 x 80 and still wouldn't upload. How do I fix that? Thanks, Nancy

Hi Nancy,

I'm guessing that your avatar is oversize in some way, because as you can see, I just uploaded an avatar for myself, and it worked OK. This avatar is sized 80 x 58 pixels, and the image file size is 4,937 bytes, (maximum allowed is 6144 bytes). I did try to upload an avatar with one or more dimensions larger than 80 pixels, and the system would not accept it.

The sizing rules are a little misleading. The maximum allowable dimension in either direction, is 80 x 80. However, the maximum allowable total file size is 6,144 bytes, so that means that the system won't actually accept an avatar that is 80 pixels in both dimensions, since 80 x 80 is 6,400 bytes. You simply need to reduce at least one dimension slightly, in order to bring the total file size down to under 6,144 bytes. You're close, but as you know, computers don't understand the meaning of the word "close".

Sorry for the problem, and if you still can't get it to work properly, please don't hesitate to let me know, and we'll try something else.

Happy Spring everyone

the 1st of March was our first day of autumn.... we are still having humid days (due to cyclone hitting further up the qld coast)
only using empty douvet/dooner cover of a night - it would be too hot with a blanket...

You're most welcome.

Nice Poem.

We can always use a good poet on this board. Most of the previous poets have either retired, or become to busy to find time for poetry.

Was a lovely first day of Spring in SE PA. 75, sunny and gorgeous. Today 72 and rain. Will bring on the daffodils and tulips.

Love, Maggie
