Bad News

My Mom fell yesterday afternoon and broke her hip. They finally operated this afternoon and used pins and screws for the repair. She is hurting a lot even with morphine every 3 hours (but, of course, they are usually late with the shot) and I'm pretty worried about her developing pneumonia as a lot of older people do. I don't know if that pneumonia shot they give the elderly will help with that type or not. She did get the shot several years ago. She is 86. I just don't want her to suffer any more than necessary.

Please keep her in your prayers and thoughts.

I don't expect to be here too much but will try to get on every other day or so.

Had a 15 hour day today with about 2 hours of actual sleep last night.

Love, Shirley

Shirley,

So very sorry to hear about your mom's accident. It can be very hard as we get older and it always seems like the hip that takes the fall. She is in my prayers as well as you.

Love, Maggie

So sorry to hear that news. I hope and pray that she will do well.

My Mom, who will be 94 in June, broke her hip in the autumn sometime. She did really well and was walking w/o the assistance of a cane or walker!

She has been having some pain now and went for a cat scan last Thursday and will see the doctor on Wed. At her last appointment, the doctor said something about taking the screws out.......

They have found that many times the bone breaks and then the fall occurs instead of vice versa.

Shirley,

I'm so sorry to hear that news, and I'm sending my best wishes and prayers along with everyone else.

Remember to take care of yourself, too. It's easy to overdo it and get run down, or sick, in a situation such as that. You're under a lot of stress, so you need to take extra precautions.

Love,
Tex

So sorry about your Mom's fall. I hope she will not have any complications and they will be more prompt with the pain meds. And definitely no pneumonia.

Hugs to you and Mom.

I'm so sorry that your mother has fallen and broken her hip. I hope she will recover quickly and be up and about.

I had the pneumonia shot two years ago, but I still got pneumonia at Christmas last year. However, it was not as severe as I've had in the past. Hopefully your mother will have some protection from the shot.
