Remission WITH gluten added is confusing to say the least!

Post by grannyh »

I have left out the peanuts, soy, yeast and dairy but added gluten back in my diet.. I know this is nuts but I was so frustrated at the lack of progress.. I threw caution to the wind and started eating gluten again.. not a lot just a piece of toast or two a day.. then what happens??? Remission.. this makes no sense to me at all!!

Is anyone able to eat gluten again with CC???

It doesn't to me either Grannyh, but I'm sure glad your are feeling a lot better!! Perhaps Polly or Karen or Wayne or some others might understand it. I sure don't.

remission

There can be spontaneous remission with colitis at any time, for any length of time, and for no known medical reason. It may not have anything to do with the gluten at this point.

Hi grannyh and Welcome!

How long have you been eating gluten now?

Love,

Polly

I have been messing with gluten for a couple of weeks now. I started with Maltomeal rice crispies and maple syrup... had the rice crispies around forever and was hungry for a snack.. knew I couldn't eat them as cereal with milk so poured pure maple syrup over them...:)

Threw in a couple donuts now and then, pecan sticky bun and toast. Poops started firming up.. it seemed soooooo odd!!

I do bloat now more than without gluten and have gained about 7 pounds... gaining weight is not a good thing..LOL

I am hungry all the time.. like I am feeding a tape worm or something... probably the added carbs...

Tomorrow I go for some kind of nuclear stress test. I had decided I better check out the ole ticker before considering entocort ...

Never a dull moment with CC I guess.. just more questions all the time...

Grannyh,

I don't have any answers for you. Perhaps it is a spontaneous remission like Peg said.

I thought you were in remission due to taking the statin, Crestor - are you no longer taking Crestor or does it no longer help control the D?

Love,
Karen

The Crestor remission lasted about 6 weeks. When I went to three pills a week I lost the remission. Then I went back to two pills a week .. no luck. When this remission ceases will go back to three a week which is what the doctor prefers that I take...

Funny you should mention it, but I do have an interesting quote. First my sources: this is from mjbonsais, who put a link to "dogtorJ" in another forum. He says that people who are glutamate sensitive (think MSG, wheat, dairy, beans, peanuts) will be sensitive to estrogens in foods.

Quote: "estrogens are inflammatory and sensitive neurons to the action of glutamate" . . . "Foods containing Natural Estrogens - Barley, Dairy, Oats, Soybeans, Wheat". . . ."Estrogen Inhibiting Foods - Berries, buckwheat, cabbage, broccoli, ditrus, fruits except apples cherries, dates, ponegranates, green beans, melons, millet, pears, pineapples, squashes, tapioca, white rice, white flour. Now this is really cool! Why would wheat be on the list of estrogens rich foods, but white flour would be on the list of estrogen blocking foods? Doesn't make sense right? Actually it DOES and illustrates a VERY important point. What do you get when you add water to white flour? Glue/paste, right? What have I been saying about gluten again . . it is "glue" and it does coat and stick to the villi of the duodenum.. In this case, it coats the villi and blocks the absorption of the ESTROGENS in the food. Now, how cool is that?"

You should be able to get to his site by this link:
www.dogtorj.com/pages/556863/index.htm

I hope this is interesting to you . . . Marsha  (it's hot here, so my smiley guy has shades. If I could I'd put little sweat drips on his forehead)

VERRRRRRRYYYY Interesting.... as Arti Johnson used to say on the old Laugh In show...
I have been having rice snaps with cherry preserves for a snack as well.. looks like I am blocking the estrogen in foods with several things....
Bring on the glue/paste....LOL

Oh gosh, granny, I'd eat Elmers with a spoon if it cured me. . and let me have grill-cheese sandwiches.
