Food Sensitivities go Mainstream!

Post by Polly »

Mornin' Good Buddies!

Guess what! Camden Yards, the stadium where the Baltimore Orioles pro baseball team plays, is going to have a stand this year for people with food sensitivities. They will offer GF and CF options. For example, GF pretzels, hot dogs/sausages on GF buns, a GF crab cake (a necessity if you live here!), and GF Red Bridge beer. Also GF CF items such as hummus and vegetables. Even a GF CF Asian noodle salad.

We have hit the big time! You know that these wouldn't be available if there weren't a market ready and willing to buy them. It appears that food sensitivities have become as all-American as baseball!

Love,

Polly

Wow! That's super news. That should plant a lot of seeds all over the country, if it's a success, and I see no reason why it shouldn't be a success.

Thanks for sharing that with us.

Love,
Tex

I am a huge baseball fan (unfortunately my beloved Red Sox have not done anything like this yet), and I had heard that the Colorado Rockies opened a GF stand last year. Just did some Googling and found this:

* Atlanta Braves (Atlanta, Georgia) – Now a gluten-free dedicated concession stand located in section 106 (at field level). Featured at the stand are all beef franks, sirloin beef burgers, chicken sandwiches, chips, popcorn, brownies, cookies, soda, water and gluten-free Red Bridge beer!

* Arizona Diamondbacks (Phoenix, Arizona) – Chase Field offers gluten-free beer and snacks. Larabars and gummy bars are available and the gluten-free beer is available wherever liquor is sold (sections 109, 114, 122, 129, 136, 311, 324).

* Baltimore Orioles (Washington D.C.) – Gluten-free pretzels are available from Noah’s Pretzel

* Chicago White Sox (Chicago, Illinois) – US Cellular Field offers gluten-free granola bars, candies, and gluten-free beer at the Southside Grill.

* Colorado Rockies (Denver, Colorado) – Coors Field has an entirely gluten-free concession stand behind section 147 on the left field. This concession sells burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, cookies, pretzels, chips, brownies, beer, and soda!

* Los Angeles Dodgers (Los Angeles, California) – Gluten-free beer (Redbridge) is available at many concession stands.

* Philadelphia Phillies (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) – Section 128 of Citizen’s Bank Park offers gluten-free hot dogs/buns and gluten-free snacks. Redbridge Beer is also available at many stands throughout the park, including Sections 139, 204, and 323.

* Washington Nationals (Washington D.C.) – Gluten-free pretzels are available from Noah’s Pretzel

Awesome! Baseball stadium managers are obviously "on the ball".

Thanks,

Just a little word of caution with the special diet food at the ballparks - look before you bite. I went to a Nationals game last year and the hummus and veggies that were supposed to be dairy-free had bits of shredded cheese in it. It was obvious cross contamination that wasn't supposed to be there. The items are becoming available, but I think it'll still be a while before the training on how to handle the products and execution of that training to maintain the safety of those products really comes to fruition.

Ooh - so exciting!

I :pulsinghearts: baseball!! Too bad my stadium isn't listed  but SBC Park is a foodie paradise - I've managed to do okay. Hopefully this will all be as mainstream as "paper or plastic?", LOL!

That's great for all of us food sensitive foods. Last time I went to Minute Maid Park in Houston I had to take in contraband . . . Hopefully this year they will also have some new items besides Cotton Candy - ugh!

to all those specialists and doctors out there (and those pesky celiacs from northern europe)

you dont need a blood test to prove you are sensitive to certain foods and ingredients!
these companies and facilities would not go to the trouble to offer these foods if there wasnt a market for them!

FANTASTIC news polly!

I adore baseball and I'm going to take this list and send it to the Toronto Blue Jays park management. Their food is disgusting, the usual fatty, unhealthy stuff all at an outrageous price. I'd love to be able to have a snack there.
