Colonoscopy Cleanout

Post by Polly »

Good Mornin'

Saw my GI doc last week and am due for another colonoscopy (I had polyps found during the first two, so must go every 4-5 years. Plus my dad died from colon cancer). The last 2 times I did that awful Go-Lytely swamp water. She now is recommending something different - Dulcolax tablets and Miralax in Gatorade (or the drink of your choice). You only have to drink a quart of liquid instead of the previous one gallon that was required. And she says the liquid does not taste bad at all.

I'd love to hear from those of you who have done this cleanout. Thanks.

Love,

Polly

Well, it certainly sounds easier. I haven't done it myself but Bill did for his last colonoscopy. He did OK except he threw up some of the liquid. I think they told him to drink it in an allotted amount of time and the last he drank just wouldn't stay down.

I hope it goes well for you......

Hi there!

I did this version last summer (my first colonoscopy). I mixed it with Crystal Light Iced-Tea at the suggestion of two friends who had used lemonade and found themselves vomiting from the sweetness (a quart of lemonade just did not sit well - my mother in law did the lemonade two weeks ago and was also nauseous). I had no problem with the iced-tea - it tastes a tad bit different, but nothing dramatic at all. I also ate some chicken broth and orange Popsicles during the day too (nothing red or purple - I was also told no red or purple Gatorade).

I should also add that I am 105 pounds, generally drink very little (I find it fills me up) and I had no real issue getting it all down. The one thing I wish I did do was drink more water up until the no-liquids-time, because I felt very dehydrated the next day before my procedure.

Good luck!

This was what I used this last time and I almost hesitate to tell you that it's the only time I've thrown up doing a cleanse. I ended up not drinking all of it and lost a whole lot from being sick. But it did what it was supposed to do anyway. I hope you have better experiences with it. I think I just tried to drink it too fast.

i am not going to complain about the prep i took. it is pico-prep

http://journals.lww.com/dcrjournal/Abst ... py.15.aspx

the consumption of it was easy, and given i had had chronic D for a few weeks before hand, i had stupidly thought there cant be much in there. the couple of hours on the toilet was overwhelming given i had been in hospital for dehydration twice in the weeks prior.
given what i have read above the fact that i could drink it without feeling nauseous or vommitting was definately a plus.
