Does caffeine matter?
Is caffeine really bad for MC? Should we avoid it?

I believe that Polly's experience applies to most of us here. Of course, a lot of "normal" people in the general population have to run to the bathroom, after finishing their morning coffee, and in those cases, that mandatory trip to the bathroom will almost surely still be the case for those individuals if they should develop MC. For the rest of us, however, coffee doesn't seem to make any significant difference, though there may well be one or two exceptions, (there always seem to be exceptions to every "rule". ).
I suspect that the reason why doctors mistakenly make that recommendation, (for MC patients to avoid caffeine), is because caffeine is a secretagogue, and the IBDs are often connected with a unique form of diarrhea known as secretory diarrhea, so the doctors mistakenly assume that a connection should exist. Apparently, it does not, according to the accumulated experience of the members of this board.

Caffine is on my friendly ingredient list - i have it with small amount of lactose free milk.
i pre-brew my coffee and bring it to work and have it as ice coffee with a bit of cold milk. the coffee machines at work are the ones that do cappicino's etc so there is risk of milk contimination.
If I want to have a coffee out, i take my own milk with me, ask them to brew a long black, and put it in a mug so i can add my own milk. Majority of coffee shops have been fantastic regarding this, one even offered to heat up my milk for me.

I just don't know about going to black coffee. I like my flavored creamers, but am afraid they may soon be part of my past. My 8 year old likes black coffee to dunk her cookies in, instead of milk.......yuck! Hmmmm........may try soy creamer, hope I can tolerate it!

although it takes time to adjust, i think you get used to the change.
I have noticed post MC and since the drastic change in foods and ingredients i have i think my tastebuds have 'changed' or have been reprogrammed. (and my nose and scent ability with foods)
in my whole life to date I have never ever liked Tea, the other day i accidently picked up the wrong cup and sipped tea, it tasted ok. it is the first time in my life that the smell of tea did not put me off, normally i would smell it well before i tasted it.

Romanita,
Have you tried hemp milk? I like the taste of the vanilla version better than cow's milk. The first time or two that I tried it, I didn't much care for it, but by about the third try, I liked it.
