Interview update

Post by Gabes-Apg »

get a cuppa -a gabe story coming up!

prep for the interview went well - woke up and digestion was behaving (good omen)
i had decided to take the whole day off work so as to minimise any stress or fatigue.
as the interview was in brisbane city (3rd largest city in Australia) current workplace is about 30 - 45 mins away from the city the interview was at 11am so it would have been too much to go to work at 6am, leave at 10am to get to the interview

packed up food and drinks for the day, the good shoes to wear for the interview into the work travel backpack, jumped on the bus.
took one loperamide after breaky to ensure there was no bubbly bum or other issues

timed it so that i had 45 mins to sit, have a gabe snack and gabe coffee before the interview

Interview went well, it was over an hour, i never have issues with interviews, i am normally not neverous. Most of my unsettlement was at home first up in the morning as this was the first big thing in the outside world since the MC diagnosis.
Gone are the days when i could dash into town, grab a coffee in transit, have a meeting etc etc. NOw there are ingredient/food considerations, ensure plenty of time for toilet stops before meetings, dont push the energy levels and the adrenals.

I got out of the interview and was soo proud of myself, my tummy behaved itself, interview went well and i felt good that my planning and mc mgt techniques worked.

given i felt ok, and i had gabe food etc with me i went and had lunch with a dear dear friend that i dont get to see often. (it was a tentatively planned thing depending on how my body coped with morning)

The sun was out, there was a mid week farmers market in the city mall, there was lots of eye candy of stands of foods and ingredients (none of which i can eat) but the smells of the foods etc was AMAZING there were flowers, and all sorts of other stuff.... we sat on a bench and at lunch and chatted. it was very cosmopolitan and felt like it was the weekend. as mackenzie mentioned in her post a few days ago, this is a bit of a lonely condition, it was a real treat to be with a dear friend and feel semi normal!

the other treat of the day was that given i was in the city, i was able to go and have a 'reading' with a clairavoyant that I have been to before. I dont live by what she says moreso it tends to give me the chance to cleanse and purge my mind of worries.
normally i forget what is said until something happens and my friend jo jo will say, wasnt that in your reading?

one of the main topics on my mind was my health and my career. I got information and insight into what is heavy on my mind. and i have woken up today and feel refreshed and alive (albeit the 1 loperamide of yesterday is causing small amount of discomfort but cie la vie)

as i was leaving she said, just breath.... breathing is very important.
and given our discusssions on here i giggled

re the outcome of the interview, wont find out till next week.

thanks Karen and Polly for your well wishes

funny enough i dont think i want the job at the other company, money is one part of the hesitance (i would have to take a 20% paycut) and the role itself it is sort of a step back.
i know to optimise good health i need to reduce stress, taking a step back with work role and risk being bored is not a good solution.

Maybe i just needed to attend the interview and gain self trust in my MC mgt techniques.
and instead of taking time off work cause i have D or am over tired, it was the first time in over 6 months that i had a day off for me for fun fullfilling activites!

and all the while - the words of our oh wise one (tex the intenstines whisperer) were in my head....
you will get your life back

I agree. Most of us need a few challenges now and then, to make our work rewarding and enjoyable.

   Gabes, you're one of a kind. It's a shame that all of us live so far apart. You're the type of person that everyone here would love to have as a friend and next-door neighbor. You're, as they say, "full of life". Please don't ever change.

Gabes, you are one interesting woman that I'd love to meet. I sense you are at a major crossroads here that relates to who you are and what you want in life. I breathlessly await the decisions you make as they are serious ones. You anywhere near Sydney? I've got a "daughter" there who could use an inspiration like you.

Gabes

Well, I got the "cuppa" and read this great post. What a day you had! And, yes, whatever you decide stay being who you really are. I know you will.

Really glad you had a pleasant day and go away from "routine". I have no doubt you needed something like that. We all do occasionally. As you said, the interview was not wasted even if you don't really want the job now. I'm sure it gave you a boost to have it go so well.

Hi there, I admire how well you managed your interview day. Will there be a second interview? It just reminded me of an interview with a manager, to get my "foot in the door" with the State of Minnesota. He was a tough guy, and put applicants through the meat grinder. One of the questions he asked was "What was the last book you read?" As I took a moment to gather my thoughts, he said " Or maybe you don't read books.....maybe you haven't read a book since high school,...maybe you've never read a book!" I then launched into a book review of a very interesting book I had read about men who are very dominant and verballly punishing to those around them...LOL He then said "Why should I hire you instead of the others I have interviewed?" I said, maybe you shouldn't...can't say really, having not met the others...maybe there are better people applying for this job...more educated, more talented, etc. Only you will know this....and if you have met such people, I think you should hire them. So long story short, he hired me to work as his secretary. Then, a stroke of luck...they transferred him to a different department after I was there only a week, and a real sweet guy replaced him.....I stayed 15 years, then retired. I later heard that the first guy, the jerk, his employees got together and slashed his tires! When he left, there was a big "waiting to exhale" moment. I think they had a party. Hope you get the new position, if it is your heart's desire. Sylvia

Thank you everyone for your unconditional support.

Connie, I am based in Brisbane which is 10 hours drive north of Sydney. i havent been down to Sydney or nearby hometown of Newcastle for 4 years or more. I am happy if you want to pass on my email address.

Ant - in your case i should have prefixed it with grab a glass of wine.

Syl - i was in an abusive marriage, there are fears and unsettlement that i am not sure i willl ever get rid of, and warning bells go off to unsettled aggresive male types.
The type of personality of any potential boss is more important to me than salary.

There is a role here with current employer, it is a promotion, that senior managers have discussed with me and expressed that they are very keen for me to do, they are confident i have the skills to fix up current issues in this team. I told them that my goal before the end of the year was to relocate to the regional area and that i could not give them longitivity in the role, they have said if i do the role for 4 - 6 months then they would do everything they can to assist me with transfer etc. obviously they cant give me this in writing

I applied for the role first up this morning. I figure if i get it it gives me the chance to continue working on my health, get myself more mentally prepared for relocation.

Connie - i dont see these type of things as crossroads, they are part of life. I dont rush into decisions involving change, I analysis and risk assess every component and then listen to my heart.

I am not sure about trusting gut instincts, is it instinct or bubbly bum - who knows he he he

Gabes,

Going slowly into any major life change is very important, IMO. This is about you and your health and your future and if that future includes TK then it will. Follow your gut on this regardless of how messed up your gut currently is.
