I made it to the doctor today to get checked out for the ringing. I wanted to make sure I had no infection going on in my ears. Everything checked out great. He said it's an age thing. That once you hit your 40's the nerve endings in the ears can wear down and you can start hearing all kind of noises. He said that it can come and go and worse case it can stay with me forever. He didn't suggest to much to help....turn on music or try to drown out the sound.
I talked to him about my thyroid and he said it's nothing to be concerned about the numbers are not high enough that he wants to do any treatment. I told him that I was told he wanted me to recheck it in August. So he gave me lab paperwork to recheck. He said he is sure it will come back fine.
I left his office once again feeling like it was all a waste of time. And he thought I was in there for just the heck of it. I really don't even see him that much. And the times I did besides 2 physicals was trying to get my eczema cleared up and I kept asking him to send me to a Dermatoligist. After it got so bad he finally did. Without a scare that I had skin cancer from a biopsy he did. He just didn't do the biopsy right. All I needed was the right medicine to clear up the eczema. Which I got from the Derm. Now it's all gone. I think it's time to find a new GP.

I agree, it may be time for a new GP, especially if you feel he isn't doing you any good, or if he is trivializing your problems ! After all, it is YOUR body, and you are the one putting up with the problems, not him !
I get so angry when I hear about a doc blowing someone off ~ I feel so lucky that I have the pcp I have ~ he is wonderful !

I too think its time to move on. He isn't a good doc if he isn't willing to give you the time you need. My endo was so like that. He didn't do one thing but waste MY time. I wrote him a letter and told him so.
I am going to send you a seperate email with the thyroid test ranges. The "standard" is different from lab to lab. My doc gave me the range he uses and it doesn't leave much room for error. I will need to find it first!

I'm sorry to hear about the disappointing doctor appointment. That seems to be way too common with this group, doesn't it. Have you by any chance checked out the tinnitus support groups on the web? Here is a link to the first one that came up on a google search, but there are a bunch of them:

I clicked on their "Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Support Board" link, and quickly found this post, which contains some good basic information, with some suggestions for sleeping aids:

The article lists meds which cause tinnitus, (interestingly, NSAIDs are on the list, as are certain antibiotics), and if you scroll further down, there is an article on sleeping aids. Further still, there are some FAQs. It appears to be a very active forum. I just googled "tinnitus support", and got a page full of support group listings.
