Had a good day until......

Post by annie oakley »

SIL and I went to Michaels craft store...bought embroidery stuff...went to hobby lobby and bought embroidery stuff and boxes and etc. :knitting: We went to Olive Garden and had Potato soup salad and breadsticks. We went to Petco and bought toys and snacks for the dogs...she has three little dogs. Then on the way home we stopped at the our vet's office to get Hartguard that we give the dogs every month to prevent heartworms. So while we are there Dr. Jimmy comes out and we start talking about the upcomong reunion and boarding my two dogs...we started talking about Jasmines Diabetes...so I ask ok be honest with me...how long do they live with that desease? He ducked his head and then looked me in the eye and said Not Long. So of course I am wanting to  my SIL is wincing behind me. SO I said ok lets do the blood test when I bring them in to board and we will discuss treatment when results are in. The treatment is two shots a day of insulin. She was so sore we couldn't touch her for a week when she had her boosters....Mike and I aren't sure we want to put her thru all that pain.....Especially if it won't prolong her life with good quailty. Mike said we will see how advanced it is and go from there. Her urine is as clear as water and for a dog that isn't good. And that's what the vet said also. Makes me want to :drinking2: We will just love her and decide what to do later. Right now she seems to be ok. But I have noticed her eyes bulge a little and she doesn't always see things right. And Blindness is something that happens to them too with Diabetes. I guess I feel so sad and ready to  my eye's out already. She's all cuttled up in a blanket and Buck is curled around my feet under the computer table. Love Oma P>S I did also Buy two humming bird feeders and a regular bird feeder. We have had hummers and haven't had a thing for them to eat. We do now!

Oma,

So sorry your news wasn't good at the vets. I know you will do whatever you think is right. I'll be thinking of you and little furbaby in the meantime.

Take care of yourself. If ya wanna :drinking2: , go ahead - I'll join ya from Ohio!

Oma,

So sorry to hear that the prognosis is bleak for the little one and I am also sure you will do what it takes to make the situation less painful for the little one. It is so hard when things go bad for an animal and the most unfortunate is that they just can't tell us.

Love, Maggie

Oh Oma, I've been wondering how Jasmine was doing. I know you'll do what is right for her.

I will just say, that booster shots are much more painful than other types of injections. Look at how much a tetnus booster hurts! Yet humans with diabetes do insulin injections all the time, several times a day. Those might not be so bad. Of course, how do you and Mike feel about giving the injections has to be considered as well.

Oma,

I'm so sorry to hear about Jasmine. To get news like that is just so hard. Just take it day to day and see how it goes. Give that little pup as much love (I know you will) as you can. Sometimes the doctors can be wrong. You just never know. I know someone who has a cat that has a whole in her heart and she was told the cat would not live long. 10 years later the cat is still around and doing fine. So you never know. I think you will know when the time comes that no more can be done. I feel so bad for the little thing. All of you hang in there.

Love,
Joyce

Oh, Oma, I am so sorry. The bonding that happens between us and our animals is SOOOO strong. But I know you. You will do whatever it takes to keep Jasmine as comfortable as you can for as long as you can. Then you will do the right thing. We know we will outlive them going in, but that sure doesn't make it any easier, does it?

Lots and lots of love,

Sally
