The web site Tex posted on April 29 was very interesting. I forwarded the link to my husband and several elderly friends to read.
My husband has been on Simvastatin 10mg (Zocor brand) for awhile now. He was on something else prior to this for a longer time. He has terrible swelling in his legs, and his legs are extremely weak. I have told him it is probably due to the statin he is taking. I wish he would get more exercise, loose weight, and get off some of the meds he is on. But then I can only make suggestions. We are each responsible for our own bodies.
I just googled the drug and read the side effects. SCARY!

Crestor is slightly different than the others but with side effects.. will see what happens in July when the results are in for the trial. I take 5 mg and not every day.

Somehow, the thought of doctors gleefully writing Crestor prescriptions for people who don't even have an elevated cholesterol level, doesn't seem very comforting.

Did you know that the life expectancy of physicians is greater than the general population? While it might seem that they lead stressful lives, I have a hunch that their longevity is due, (in part, at least), to the fact that they never worry about being on time for an appointment.
Their patients all do worry about being on time for their appointments, so their life expectancy goes to hell, while the docs keep going like the "Energizer Bunny".

I have been taking Lipitor for the past 2 years as a preventative and have been thinking of stopping it, and talked to my doctor about that last week. What I read tonight has cinched it! I have officially stopped. What an eye opener. Thank you for posting this link, Tex. Remember those leg cramps I wrote about......? a common reaction to Lipitor, apparently ... also, I have been experiencing some weird blurred vision the last couple of weeks.. that is too!

About Statins. I was on Lipex for almost 2 yrs till I read online, of all the other people who had the same worsening aches and pains as I did, since starting Lipex. I read one doctor saying he'd never go back on them and wont prescribe them . My doctor wasnt pleased when I stopped. They apparently prevent strokes ( I must say there seem to be less strokes now than there used to be.)
My theory is that the doctors are just covering their own backs and pleasing the drug companies. My family had no history of heart probs and I only had a bit of angina and after doing the treadmill test, was put on Celiprolol. My dose hasnt alterred in 20 yrs. Since 2000 my Cholesterol was up and Dr said when a patient has 2 areas not quite right, they are advised to prescribe the statins. ( our Cholesterol measures are different in NZ. Mine is about 5.6. As long as below 6 theres not much worry)
