Question re Fish Oil

Post by Emjayn »

WOW! Now Im totally empty, what a surprise after being settled at 2 visits a day lately!
What Im wondering is, Would beginning to take fish oil capsules trigger a reaction? Blackmores Omega 3. I bought a big pot of them as they are said to have an anti-inflammatory effect as Im missing the naproxen NSAIDS that I reckon triggered this LC.
I also had some fresh Silver beet from my garden yesterday( Is the only thing edible cept parsley in my garden and Im so proud of the plants and love silverbeet.) Last ate some about 2 weeks ago and was a bit loose the day after but not like today! Ive had the Oil capsules about 5 days now but took 4 after one meal yesterday( They suggest up to 4 three times daily, Ive been slowly buiding up the dose.)
Just remembered too... oh yes, I had a cup of coffee handed me at a gallery talk yesterday too! Reckoned it'd be OK... but maybe not!!!!

Silverbeet, a type of chard, very similar to spinach has been a problem for many of us because of the high amounts of oxalic acid. Sometimes if picked when they are very small, baby greens, and cooked well they can be tolerated but once they become mature they are hard to digest.

I have never had a problem with fish oil but only take about a half teaspoon a day. Maybe you need to back off a bit and build up over a period of time. Also check that they have no hidden soy or other oils that may be a problem for you.

Hope this helps

Love

I agree with Matthew, fish oil capsules shouldn't trigger a reaction, but if you take too many of them, any kind of oil can cause looser stools, or D.

Coffee should work the same way that it did before you developed MC. IOW, a morning cup of coffee will send many people to the bathroom, whether they have MC, or not. Others don't notice any effect, and that should still apply even after they have MC.

Thanks Matthew and Tex, Im thinking it was the silver beet. Will try using new wee leaves, cooked well as suggested Matthew as I REALLY enjoy silver beet, but will wait a week now. Also stopped the oil for today and will begin very slowly and build up again much slower.
Apparently I had convulsions as a baby when my mum added Silver beet to my mashed vegys. Was rushed to hospital and they said it was the new greens. We always had it in family garden so grew up with it once Id adjusted. Must have been the oxalic acid then.

not only are our bodies adjusting re foods that irritate us but also we have to 'retrain' it to digest again. and there will be ingredients that were once loved that we may not get to have again.

I still get to enjoy my coffee, i take my own pre-brewed coffee to work so as to ensure there is no contimination, as the coffee machine at work has milk powder in it and makes lattes and cappacino's etc

I have done everything to ensure there is no risk of contamination, take my own cutlery to work,

hope things settle down soon and you can have your silverbeet

take care

Interesting about the silver beet/and or spinach. Last Sunday I had what should have been a perfectly good paleo meal (roast venison, well roasted potatoes and carrots and.... spinach, and I reacted like crazy and was up two or three times in the night. I remember saying to my husband "I don't know what set me off like that .. maybe it was the spinach!!" because I could not figure out what else it could be, but never really thought it would be that either. Hmmm..... oxalic acid, huh? Darn.. I like spinach!

I love spinach but dare not try it - one bite and I pay dearly.
