Joe,
i first had acupuncture when i had a bad bowel contusion. (my bowel is adhered to my ovary as well)
the treatments, removed inflammation and encourage cell rebuild, with naturpathic support (diet and herbs) we spent 6 months focusing on cell rebuild for my gut for IBS (post 3 bowel surgeries)
once we got the gut happy, we then worked on the hormones etc
all the while the treatments work on immunity and health of all organs, eliminating toxins, clarity of thought,
after about a year of regular treatments, i then would only go if i was sick. I didnt have a family doctor if i got sick i went to Shauno and he would treat the issues (chest infection etc) i didnt necessarily get better any quicker, i got better via a natural approach.
in the last 3 year other symptoms starting occurring with my adrenals etc, and i was back seeing shauno about every month or two months. When the D started, we were struggling to figure it out as we were aware it was different to before, for 7 years or more my treatments would be on the same points.
at the moment we are working on removing inflammation, cell rebuild, good blood flow through the meridians, supporting my immunity. Shauns aim is to get me well enough that i only need acupuncture every 6 weeks.
at the moment, i go every 2 weeks, i have a really good week after the treatment and then it is like it fades and the MC symptoms become more prevelant at the end of the 2 weeks.
i cant afford to go weekly.

Gabes you have been through quite a bit... Its a great thing that the treatments work well for you, In researching this I am finding the basis for these treatments as quite fascinating, although I wish I understood the mechanism a bit more.
It seems that this discipline treats the neurological pathways as the 'electrical / energy' conduits that they are. Fundamentally our bodies are a bio / electrical machine, with the nervous system basically making up the wiring. It is apparent that by stimulating or repressing a signal to a specific system in the body can have a measurable effect. In a broad sense many of our systemic medications in western medicine use this very principle, they are just not very targeted.
I spent most of my lunch today at the Harvard medical library looking up information on acupuncture. It was good to see that they had a very large collection of literature on this topic. There were several studies that looked at the effectiveness of these treatments, and the rates for specificity of effect (how well it works) were quite high depending on the treatment.
Tex may be correct in my case though, that adding treatments too quickly will add confusion in determining what treatments are working (or not). The plan for now will be to continue the course of treatments with Entocort through mid July, while following the simplified diet that you graciously provided. After that I plan on determining if I am in remission or not, and depending on how I feel at that point, I would plan on trying acupuncture as a treatment. In the meantime, I will be researching this and looking for a practitioner in my area, have received several referrals from co-workers.
Thanks for all the info Gabes

In researching acupuncture and other alternative medical approaches, this article caught my eye.

I had about half a dozen sessions at a traditional chinese medicine centre to try to reduce the menopause symptoms. Any improvement was very marginal so I haven't been back for a while. The MC wasn't an issue at the time so we weren't working on it at all.
BTW, the whole issue of stress causing D is so true. I am currently taking two days leave to help me relax from a bad situation at work. A colleague with mental health issues is basically bullying me and at least one of my team members. My bosses are great, but they need to be careful to look after us whilst not pushing the other person over the edge. None of us want that on our conscience. Oddly enough, D has appeared for the first time in many many months. Duhhh.

This new book I picked up this past week discusses the use of accupuncture and different Hollistic approaches. Although I'm still in early stages of dx of MC I'm still trying to learn what all is going on with my body and reading on many different things. As for the accupuncture it seems that many people (but not all) have had good outcomes with it. Many also mixed Western medicine in conjunction with Hollistic and Chinese approaches. I hope this works for you and please keep us posted.
