Entocort side effects

Post by scoutfinch »

I just started Entocort 9 mg a few days ago; so far, I have less 'D'--encouraging!

I'm wondering what side effects people have experienced--particularly, weight gain and moon face. I know it sounds vain, but I do a little catalog modeling to supplement my income and I want to maintain my weight.
I've got high hopes, I've got high hopes;

I was first put on predisone for my MC and I definitely put the weight on and had the moon face. When they switched me to Entocort I did not have those side effects. I also didn't have the bursts of energy that the predisone gave me but I did feel better all over.

Hope this helps.

I was put on Entocort 9mg a day 5 weeks ago and so far no weight gain or moon face. The only 2 mild side effects I have are occasionally a slight sinus type of headache, and early it made me a bit hyper in the morning. For the most part those symptoms have subsided.

I do know that prednisone has far more side effects than Entocort, hopefully in your case it will not be an issue as well.

Hi Scout,

Not vain at all - no one wants those side effects. Not everyone has side effects, of course, and they vary by the individual, but a few members have experienced the side effects that you mentioned, usually after using Entocort for a relatively long period of time. As Jan pointed out, Entocort is not nearly as bad on side effects as the other corticosteroids. The weight gain is not automatic - it comes as a result of an increase in appetite, for most individuals who have this side effect.

Also, as our intestines heal, we tend to do a better job of absorbing nutrients, and this can add pounds. Another issue is the GF diet, (if you are following it) - most GF commercially-processed foods have a higher calorie content, (on the average), than conventional foods, (because there are no "lite" versions of GF products, as a rule). If you do your own cooking, though, this is a moot point.

That's good news that it's working on the symptoms, so quickly.

See how strange we all are with meds---

I had no issues with Prednizone---yet Entocort --within 2 days it hit me with neurological issues--(needed to hold on to the wall to walk---and had speech issues--
Was on it for 2 dayz and when I called my Gastro doc---*stop immediately*--
Thankfully it was only 2 dayz --soon as I stopped --my body started to function normally~~

I had the same issues as Barbara and have stopped taking it. Also more than hyper in the a.m.

side effect I faced, when I started with two pills a day, feeling of being drunk with a hang over at the same time, headache, dizzy, nauseous, hyper, feeling chased.

With a lower doses those side effects were gone. With one pill, I still suffer from acne, it was worse in the beginning. First two - three periods where long, almost 10 days. Also that is over now, although the frequency of my period is on top speed (every three weeks) and a bit more severe.

Also I got more pigment spots on my arms and legs. I took a while before I made the connection with entocort. Entocort slightly changes my female hormones (what causes the acne and changes in the menstruation) and that can cause pigment spots. I just won't believe it has another cause. I started after I started taking entocort.

Last thing, entocort can very slightly lower your immune system. I have on my two big toe's fungus nails (if you call it that in English). First I didn't make the connection. But again, this also started after I started taking entocort and already swim for almost 3 years.

Although I sometimes think I am getting a plump face, that is in my imagination. And it doesn't sound vain at all. It is bad enough you have this disease, nobody is looking forward to get a plump fat prednisone face. Also I didn't gain wait while being on entocort.

Harma

Interesting you mention the fungus toe nails, because that has recently happened to me. I am now treating them by filing the nail and applying anti-fungal nail liquid once a week.

I bought some creme, which I should apply twice a day, but I am not very good at it, forget it all the time. What is the name of the stuff you are using, ant? once a week sound much better.

Hi Scout,

I have been on Entocort for 3 years and haven't noticed any side effects from it. I've actually lost 28 lbs. while being on it, primarily due to a very restricted diet.
