Peggy Informs Me That The Flower Fund Is Getting Low

Post by tex »

As most of you know, since we are one big international family here, we try to send flowers to any member who has major surgery, or anyone who has the misfortune of a death in their immediate family, (provided that we are aware of it). Since the fund was started, we've spent $1,222.55 on flowers. The balance is currently down to $91.42, which might be insufficient, if we should have to send flowers overseas. In certain countries they are more expensive than in others. If anyone wants to see a detailed accounting of the flower fund, please let me know, and I'll e-mail you a copy of the records.

Please don't feel obligated, because this is strictly a voluntary effort, but if anyone is interested in making a contribution toward the fund, please let me know, and I'll PM or e-mail you an address where you can send a check or money order.

Thanks,
Tex

Linda,

I sent you a PM with an address where you can send a cheque, (in British Columbia, no less).

Many thanks,
Tex

Gabes,

The world banking system makes it very difficult to deposit checks written on an overseas bank - even cashier's checks.

Ant was able to send a contribution last year, by drawing a cashier's check on a U.S.-based bank. IOW, his bank in Hong Kong, just happened to be based in New York City, in the U. S., so I was able to convince my bank to accept the check for deposit. Otherwise, all banks seem to be forbidden by the banking laws, to accept checks drawn on foreign banks. We share thousands of miles of border with Canada, and yet my bank told me that they couldn't accept a Canadian cheque, unless it were written on a U.S.-based bank. That's absolutely ridiculous, but that's the way it is. :sigh:

The Flower Fund is handled by a member in Canada, (who has a U. S. bank account for this purpose), but I'm assuming that the banking laws in Canada are similar. I'll ask her, though, just in case they're not as restrictive.

Thanks,
Tex

Ant,

You're too generous. You've already done way more than your share. You've helped to put big smiles on quite a few faces that were in need of a smile.

Thanks,
Tex

Roma - if you see this... if your brother is still there with you, i could transfer funds to his aussie account and while he is in the states he could get some USD that could be deposited in the flower fund account.

if not - i am sure i can come up with a plan b....
