TEx.....
Firstly.....beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
I am also guessing that there are quite a few humans on this site that snore and dribble MORE than a boxer.....
I find it amazing that you would wave that red flag! (in oz we would call you a shi* stirrer!)

Hi Joe,
So, forgive me all for hijacking Gabe’s thread on going to France, but you did give me an opening I couldn’t resist.
I will still take issue and I’m sure my DH would also, that Nestle’s beauty would turn more heads than a boxer. I’ll try to figure out this posting pics thing here and hopefully we can find the pictures and prove our point.
We lost McKaela 11 years ago to cancer. She left us way too soon, before she was 9. Neither of us have a lifestyle now that would make having a dog fair to a dog, but I cannot imagine ever having any other breed. We have her ashes here and plan to go to Utah to scatter her ashes there, she loved it there, if we ever get a vacation. Her pics are all over our frig. She was legendary.
DH and I weren’t married when she left us, it was her second bout with cancer and DH was on a movie so she was with me and my daughter. Both my D and I were dealing with a recent family tragedy and the Mick really saved her, especially. We were all with her when she died.
She was not a fast typist, but as long as she had a full belly, she could get the job done.
Tex, I do not see how snoring and slobbering are a problem and I will try to forgive you for this judgmental comment, which is so unlike you.
As Gabe’s said:
And us humans probably post here, unbathed, in their PJ’s, or worse, and they burp and probably also fart (considering their MC status) and who knows what else. Just sayin’
OK, I’m done now, but can only imagine I’ll post photos at some point.

That's what "they" say, but remember, "they" tend to say all sorts of things that may or may not be true, when "they" are trying to rationalize a position. LOL.Gabes wrote:Firstly.....beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
Possibly true, but I fail to see how that makes it a more appealing pattern of behavior. Yep, I've even been guilty of posting late at night, or early in the morning, while sittin' around in my underwear, unshaven, but that doesn't mean that I'm proud of such behavior.Gabes wrote:I am also guessing that there are quite a few humans on this site that snore and dribble MORE than a boxer.....
In Texas, that descriptive term might be applied to the person who tried to sell such unappealing characteristics as appealing, in the first place, but it certainly would not be applicable to the individual who pointed out that the Emperor has no clothes.Gabes wrote:I find it amazing that you would wave that red flag! Did you read George Orwell's novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four . If so, you should recognize the resemblance of such altered thinking to what he called Newspeak.
While I recognize that most dogs have superb qualities that have nothing to do with their looks, and which make them priceless - if you're trying to sell them on the merits of their looks, then you're dealing with a much less complex subject, that is far easier to critique. Right?
Hey - I'm just an unsophisticated old country boy, and I call 'em the way I see 'em. I don't have the eloquence to think and write in terms of Newspeak.

Tex, to quote my DH
As I said:but frankly, comparing any other breed to boxers is like comparing Peter Lorre to Grace Kelly.
especially if you are comparing pigs to boxers, because ANYONE who has ever lived with pigs, and I have, knows that they are beyond comparison.I do not see how snoring and slobbering are a problem and I will try to forgive you for this judgmental comment, which is so unlike you.

Connie,
Hmmmmm. I'm still trying to decide if the comparison of Peter Lorre with Grace Kelly is a valid point, here.
Did I compare pigs with boxers? once again Well, shame on me if I did, but if we're on that topic, (not that I'm a fan of the species, because I'm not, though I do dearly love properly prepared swine flesh, and over the years, I've raised, and prepared, many of them), on behalf of the swine of the world, I feel compelled to point out that unlike canines, who tend to deposit their body waste in various random locations, all over the place, so that walking in the yard is akin to entering a minefield, pigs always concentrate their body waste in one specific location in their living quarters, (not unlike humans). They are not nearly as unsanitary as is commonly believed, though I must admit that I fail to find them cuddly and endearing, (probably because they don't have those big, brown eyes, that Walt Disney used to instantly personify most animals, a couple of generations or so ago. He had a greater effect on the course of civilization, than most of the great political leaders, (and the notorious ones, such as the dictators who instigated the world wars), of the last century.

Tex,
I am unashamedly a fan of the pig only because I really enjoy a good pork chop, but I've been attacked by them more than once, w/o provocation. I still can't eat lamb, growing up watching that whole life process was pretty much an appetite killer.
OK,
guess you are the only one who knows who your former love interests resemble, and I don't imagine you'd be attracted to anyone who was uncomplicated and wasn't a worker.Hmmmmm. I'm still trying to decide if the comparison of Peter Lorre with Grace Kelly is a valid point, here.

Joe,
I've always loved a good debate, as long as they remain casual. They're stimulating, and usually bring out some interesting thoughts. You have to be aware, though, that I usually am not particular about which side I choose - I just enjoy coming up with supporting "arguments" to support whichever side I happen to pick.

I've never given that much thought, to be honest. I'm a lot like a goose - when I fall off the roost in the morning, I head out in whichever direction I happen to pointed.Connie wrote:guess you are the only one who knows who your former love interests resemble, and I don't imagine you'd be attracted to anyone who was uncomplicated and wasn't a worker.
You're certainly right about the darker side of pigs - they can be mighty vicious, when they want to be. I'm sure you're aware that they'll attack and eat a lamb in a heartbeat, and a chicken that strays into a pigpen usually doesn't have much of a chance. Growing up on a farm, decades ago, instilled a totally different view of all animals, when compared with the "conventional" concept, held by most people, these days. One got to know what they were "really like", back then. Farms are far different, now - they are food factories, with virtually no resemblance to the family farm of a couple of generations ago.

Well, that's a very cowboy answer, Tex,
Traveling with the Marlboro boys and seeing working ranches was a real eye-opener, I've never been on a food factory ranch, but frankly, what I saw on the working ranches was enough to make anyone a vegetarian if they think about it too much, especially when it comes to sheep.I've never given that much thought, to be honest. I'm a lot like a goose - when I fall off the roost in the morning, I head out in whichever direction I happen to pointed

I had my boxer trained to poo in one spot
started when he was a puppy, trained him to poo on newspaper, then where ever i put the piece of newspaper that is where he would poo! eventually within 4 months he would go to the one spot in the yard (where the newspaper had been)
no surprises under foot, i love organsiation and constency (cant you tell!)
Joe - big trip in the future that is a bit exciting......
Non work related planning - ie Gabes looking after Gabes type planning is going well.
picked up new stocks of my meds last night so have more than enough for worst case MC symptoms during the trip- got some GF/YF/LF/SF cold and flu tablets to take with me as a just in case....
French born work colleague translated the food guide sheet (THANKS ANT!!!)
so this is ready to hand to wait staff for dinners. From this i have the english/french translation for all my banned ingredients that I will carry with me.
This weekend I will do extenstive investigation for places to eat and where to get supplies.
i am not sure yet if i am flying into Nice and driving to Marseille, or direct to Marseille. but will investigate both options
I have googled gluten free nice and and some forums have come up. If they are in french then I will get one of my work colleagues to translate what is written.
We have about 30 french born people working here in australia. Some came for a 2 year stint and have since gained aussie citizenship and stayed. Others are due to return to france in the next 6 months.
As long as i am not too over tired tomorrow (saturday) i will do the last of the hunting and gathering.
