Jayweiss63 is my brother
Hey all! I'm back from Hawaii. What an awesome vacation. I was grateful that I ONLY had one really bad day. The rest were somewhat bearable. A few stops here and there but manageable. Since everyone is SO open here I'm going to take a stab at admitting that I did have a horrible experience twice. Once was walking block after block to a Japanese place where I had to stop a couple times and sit because I thought I was going to have an accident. I left the table several times for the bathroom but that turned out to be a blessing in disguise. During one of my trips to the bathroom, (I had ordered Dungunesse Crab) the waiter came out with a 'partially' steamed crab for my approval. It was partially alive and my family gave me all the details. I would have COMPLETELY lost my appetite had I seen that. But just hearing the details from my family was enough so as I did not eat it! My second and more embarrassing moment was while my husband and I were snorkeling a reef my tummy cramped up horribly and I couldn't get to shore to run to a bathroom so you can only imagine my experience at that point. Otherwise the rest of the trip was manageable. I would like to eventually reach a point where I can go outside my comfort zones without these type moments!
There is a new member on here, jayweiss63, who is my brother. We talked on the phone tonight and found out that both of us are having issues which match our heritage. Our great grandmother has colon cancer and ended up with a colostomy. My grandmother, her daughter, also suffers from gastral problems but has never been diagnosed with anything concrete. Her son, our uncle, has a temporary colostomy. Seems to be a hereditary situation in our family. So I gave my brother this website to search and learn what he can from it. I know this place has been a great source of education for me. I've learned more here than from my own doctor. THANK YOU!
It's late and I'm still trying to get adjusted to the 5 hour time change. I'm signing off for now. It may take me awhile to catch up with all that's been posted in the past week and a half. Talk with you all later.

JP I have found this to be a very accepting group of people here. One of the strengths of this site is the ability to openly share those things which affect our lives both for the good and the bad.
It is amazing that they would bring out the crab like that. I like mine resting on a plate and waiting for a bit of lemon.
Kim I missed this post when you originally posted it, it sounds like a good trip overall. I have always wanted to be able to do some scuba diving in the Hawaiian islands; it must have been amazing.

KP,
I'm sorry if my post was disturbing to you. I posted it with a lack of explanation perhaps. My goal was to express that even though having MC can be disruptive in our lives there are few hidden pluses and mine was definitely discovered at the moment of the crab ordeal. I too was disturbed by the explanation of such a gift from this restaurant. It was an experience I will not forget and, FOR ONCE, am thankful for my reasons to not be present when it happened. Again, I apologize if it was too disturbing or graphic for you.
Joe,
I can not tell you how excited I am that I know I can now scuba dive. It has ALWAYS been a dream of mine to be below the ocean's surface and see the wonders below. My trip was truly a blessing and I am very thankful for the experience (MC didn't completely ruin it afterall. I was so worried about that). I hope at some point you too will get to live out your desire to try it too.

Joe thank you! I suppose I can be a bit insensitive to those who have a difficult time with such experiences. I feel bad I upset someone.
As for the diving, now that I know there is a patch to help with vertigo I'm SIKED! I want to become certified in scuba diving and take a trip to maybe Bahama or somewhere like that. That will take some major saving again, but what an experience that would be. I am determined to NOT let MC hold me back. I do need to settle for a bit and work on the diet thing. I'll get there eventually. Thanks for your post and support

That's a great attitude Kim. Setting a goal and working to achieve it is important. I am really starting to see how MC and crohns can affect our lives in pretty dramatics ways. Overall I have found some pretty amazing people on this website who are noting short of impressive.
Thanks for sharing your adventure

Kim, what a great attitude!!I am determined to NOT let MC hold me back.
It is when a relapse happens, or fatigue seems to get the better of us, or when, as Gabes said in another post, we see a cornucopia of foods we cannot eat but long for, or just generally when the rest of the world seems oblivious to what we have to deal with, that we need most to keep our spirits up - to have a good cry and then renew our determination, especially with the help, practical and spiritual, of the PP family.
Our fight is not WW2 but I like to try and apply what Churchill said in 1941 to our "MC enemy"
"Never give in. Never, never, never, never -- in nothing, great or small, large or petty -- never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy."
All best, Ant
Ant,
That truly is a phrase to remember and try to apply in many aspects of life. Thanks for sharing.
Gabes,
I hope that whether you use the quote to encourage your team or not that all of you will know and recognize that the wonderful effort from you and your team with the working hard and being so dedicated should be appreciated by the management enemy. However if it's not, my hope is that you all will find support and recognition and strength from one another that will pull each of you through. Don't forget you always have us
