Research Shows Tea To Be Very Potent At Protecting The Heart

Post by tex »

Hi All,

Drinking tea may turn out to be better than taking any of the prescription drugs, when it comes to lowering the risk of death from heart disease. Drinking coffee in moderation, also appears to have benefits, but tea seems to be especially effective:
Drinking three to six cups of tea a day was associated with a 45 percent reduced risk of death from heart disease, compared to drinking less than one cup a day, and drinking more than six cups of tea a day was associated with a 36 percent lower risk of getting heart disease in the first place.
A 45% risk reduction is an extremely impressive statistic, and it's approximately in line with the most optimistic claims made about the use of statins, for example.

I wonder how many doctors will now begin to prescribe tea and coffee for their patients, instead of statins. :headscratch:

Tea, green or black is probably my favorite drink. I make iced green tea in a large container and drink it all summer long. Its good to know it may be beneficial.

Do you know what kind of tea they were referring to in the study? I do lots of herbal tea, but have pretty much eliminated caffeine....

Laurie,

Here's an abstract of the article. Since the study involved 37,514 participants, all residents of the Netherlands, I would guess that all types of tea were included, but that's obviously just a guess.

Well..........humph...............I guess I'm in trouble!

I was advised that drinking tea when you have kidney stone problems is not a good idea. Drinking tea will increase the stones formation if you have a history of them, as I do. Not fun when you love the sun tea in the summer!
