TA DAAA! My MC is GONE!

Post by Polly »

How about that! Just spoke with my GI doc who said that the multiple biopsies taken during my colonoscopy last week show NO evidence of MC. This is proof that diet alone works! YIPPEEEEEE!

A little history here...........my initial diagnosis of MC was 10 years ago. I started the GF/DF diet but it took me many years to figure out all of my intolerances (Dr. Fine's tests weren't as comprehensive then). My 2nd colonoscopy was 5 years ago and still showed MC on biopsy. About 2 years ago, I figured out my final food intolerance (eggs), eliminated them, and began eating mostly paleo. So now I have no evidence of MC on biopsy.

Of course, the genetic propensity to have MC is not really "gone" - but the inflammation is gone and my gut is back to looking and acting normal. The MC would undoubtedly come back in a heartbeat if I resumed my old way of eating. It is so exciting to have proof that my years of detective work and patience have paid off.

I told my doc I was going to email her our list of what we wish GI docs knew about MC and she was most receptive. She may feel differently when she sees it! LOL!

Love,

Polly

P.S. If this can happen for me, it can happen for anyone. Remember, I have double DQ1 genes which translate to more and trickier food intolerances, a longer time to get to remission, etc.
Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.

Well I'll be a :monkey:'s uncle. To be honest, I was wondering if it were even medically possible, with all the hazards we face for accidentally eating traces of gluten or other intolerances. Obviously it is indeed possible. Congratulations!

You know, Polly, you may well be the first person in medical history to have reached this milestone, (as far as documented proof is concerned). Your doc really should consider writing this up and publishing it as a case study. That might go a long way toward getting the word out where it really counts, (in the literature that GI docs might actually read).

Your polyp-free status, (following two prior exams where polyps were present), is remarkable, also, as an endorsement of the benefits of taking adequate amounts of supplemental vitamin D3.

Love,
Tex

P. S. Doesn't this mean that you also qualify for an official status as a medical fascinoma?
:cowboy:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Some light at the end of the tunnel. More importantly confirming that by removing the offending food can cause resolution of the underlying problem.

What encouraging news, Polly, that it is possible for the colon to heal! You have been the "advance scout" in many different ways!

Pretty remarkable! I agree that your GI should publish a paper to educate the other GIs.
