Budesomide
Can this steroid cause constipation? I've taken it for several weeks with no problem. I'm now on vacation & I haven't gone in 5 days. I'm starting to feel a touch uncomfortable. Any suggestions? Bev

Hi Bev,
Yes it can, for some of us. If I were in your situation, I would stop taking it for a few days, ( or cut the dosage way down), to see if the problem resolves itself. If not, you may need to take a laxative, to correct the problem.
You might be more sensitive to budesonide than most of us. IOW, it may be working too good - you may need to try a lower dose, in order to avoid that problem.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
"IOW" stands for "In Other Words". Here is a list of commonly used abbreviations used on this board:

Good luck with the reduced dose.

Now that I'm going to be staying in one place for a few days on this vacation, I tried my old nemisis; 1 tbs of olive oil - that did the trick. Of course, now I have to stay near the bathroom for several hours.
Dairy- blue cheese salad dressing, salmon, halibut, & fried foods didn't bother me, but just a little olive oil and no more backup. Is that weird or what?!

Bev,
Wow! That was fast. Yes, we are all different, and we all have our own individual set of rules that we have to follow, in order to "play the game" with optimum results. You'll be back on track in no time at all.

The only times I have been constipated while taking entocort was when I had to take tylenol with codeine after breaking my ankle and major dental work. Learned that I could practically not take the entocort when taking the tylenol with codeine.. for the few days that I had to take the pain killers.. then went back to entocort daily.
