Surgery while on Entocort??

Just wondering if anyone has had surgery while on Entocort?? I need surgery (not related to my MC) and my doctor wants me to be off the Entocort before.......this could be a while!

I dont use entocort but i agree with Barbara, i would check this with your GI specialist.

in all situations i would be asking why, and have them give you a reason why.

not sure if you have seen a post by Polly titled KISS.
quite a few people in the medical profession see the symptoms of MC, namely chronic D as 'minor inconvenience' majority of us on this site dispute this.

If a medical practioner asked me to do something that i know for certain would cause me to flare and have chronic D, they would have to give me a very very good reason for me to agree to their request.

Sorry --- but --- this is not a question that can, or should be, answered in this forum.

Your PCP/surgeon/or, --- whoever has proffered this opinion, should be considering this question in concert with the likely anesthesia provider(s) in the setting where any upcoming surgical situation will take place. I.E.) What ever is ultimately decided regarding this question, should be with full knowledge of the anesthesia provider.

In general terms, your physician’s concerns are probably (?) about any potential/possible (?) steroid dependence which might (?) occur with Entocort -- in relationship to some of the many and varied anesthesia drugs and techniques which could be considered for your situation.

No matter what is decided, everyone should be again reminded of current drug status, as well as specific history with Entocort, at the time of surgery.

Aren't you being a little hard on Kim? She didn't ask for medical advice, she merely asked a simple, straightforward question, and I really see no reason why her question can't or shouldn't be answered on this forum, (or any other appropriate forum). Her question was:

What's wrong with that? For all I know, you may possibly have anticipated her next question, but that's irrelevant, because at this point, you're reading between the lines. You and I both know that your intentions were the best, and for that, all of us are grateful, but please don't try to discourage members from asking questions - this is a discussion board, you know.

Thanks Tex.......I was just wondering if anyone on this site has had surgery while on Entocort. My GI doctor has given me some very poor advice recently so naturally I am curious about this piece of advice. I have an appt. with my family doc soon and will ask his opinion.

Hi Kim !! I have taken entocort in the past and am taking it now...never had to have surgey while on it tho ( thank goodness )...I am no expert on entocort by any means, however I do know it can lower the immune sysytem so I am sure that is a possible concern of your Dr's regarding the surgery at this time. My best advice is to ask why he/she prefers to delay until the entocort treatment is finished...hopefully asking will give 'ya some answers.

Don't know how long they want you off entocort before surgery.. and I would definitely talk to the GI doc who put you on it.. but I know if I had to go off entocort for any length of time.. I would be too weak from D to have surgery!

I have not had surgery while on entocort..
