1/2 of a barn
Well....Mike and BIL have the tin up...of course they have only built 1/2 of the barn...But Mike is doing it on the weekends. Yeah. Now I have a tin roof over the trailer and I can park under it when it storms. They are finishing the roof right now. Of course when I asked if he had time to do mu humming bird feeders.... he gave me a funny look, as if to ask which would you like the barn or the feeders? so I left that one alone. I was suppose to work til 4pm but we were slow and Boss said Go home if you want...didn't have to tell Oma twice. So I left at 2:45 pm. Tex...Momma quail is still setting the nest...haven't seen babies yet. Love Oma

Hi Oma,
How about some pictures, if you can get them, of the quail??
Glad there has been so much progress on the barn. It really seems to go slow at times when you can't devote as much time as you like, doesn't it.
Seen any more unwelcome snakes?
My Mom was all excited about a Black Snake she saw from her living room window in Fl. but I told her it was one of the "good" ones. She was OK then.

Hi Shirley...I have taken some pics of the barn...I am going to finish off the film at the reunion this weekend and get it developed. Then I will send some to Sally for the Gallery. No I haven't seen any snakes lately, but they are out there. I am very careful...especially when I let Jasmine and Buck outside to potty. Hubby feels better having just half the barn done then the stage it was at a month ago. Love Oma

Oma,
My brother killed a rattler heading up the concrete apron leading into his garage, (and his back door), last night about 9 o'clock. They were sitting in the back yard visiting with in-laws, and luckily one of his cats spotted it, and they happened to notice the cat watching the snake. The snake almost made it into the garage.

That rattler got what he deserved. If they stay in their place - I'll leave them alone and we'll both be happy.
I keep thinking about that Coral Snake that lives in Florida. Sure hope I never even see one - much less meet one up close!!

Tex...That is so scarey when they so up like that. Afew years back I got out of the truck after shopping and went up the stairs to the back door and for some reason I skipped the second step ( I was in a hurry) . Mike called me back to the door and said DO NOT COME OUT but look down at the steps. And there was a Baby rattler abot 1 1/2 feet long coiled up asleep in the sun. Mike and BIL were watching for the rattlers while they were building the first half of the barn. I am trying to be real careful out here in the country. The little snakes can be even more dangerous as far as venom goes than the larger ones. Love Oma

Hi Oma,
You're right, the older snakes sometimes fail to inject a lethal dose, either because they've recently stuck something, and are short on venum, or they simply had a "misfire". The young ones rarely fail to perform, though. As you know, a foot and a half is plenty long enough to be lethal.
