It's good to hear that everything is still going so well, and I hope that everything continues to go smoothly.

Thanks for the update. It's been so long since the last update, (8 days), that I was beginning to wonder if you had been kidnapped in the desert, by a bunch of slave traders, and sold into slavery, or something.

Harma what a great post. I really like the updates on your adventures. Its a good thing that you are moving closer to better food shops. Hopefully the variety there will suit your needs.

I have been to the dead sea on the Israeli side, but never had the chance to float in it, that really looks like an interesting experience.

Hi Harma,

I have enjoyed reading about your Jordan adventure and had to laugh when you talked about the lack of traffic rules. I've never been so scared in a car as when we got in a cab at the Cairo airport to take us to the Mena House at the pyramids. I finally had to close my eyes, it was simply too scary to watch the traffic. However, during my stay there, I became accustomed to their style of driving, and came to realize that they communicated with each other through the car horns, and it all seemed to work out fine. The streets sounded like orchestras playing:). You have a lot of courage to be out there driving "Arab style".

There is a great saying "where ever I go, there I am" that came to mind when you described your reaction to being in Jordan. It's so true that no matter where we are or what we do, we cannot really escape the reality of the issues we're dealing with - they come right along with us on the journey.

Floating in the Dead Sea sounds absolutely awesome. I so enjoyed swimming and snorkling in the Red Sea, but have not experienced the buoyancy of very salty water.

Harma,

You are a very brave soul, driving in Jordan without, it seems, any driving rules. It sounds like you are finding your way with eating and getting around.

Reading your reflections reminds me of the following quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson:

Our first journeys discover to us the indifference of places. At home I dream that at Naples, at Rome, I can be intoxicated with beauty, and lose my sadness. I pack my trunk, embrace my friends, embark on the sea, and at last wake up in Naples, and there beside me is the stern fact, the sad self, unrelenting, identical, that I fled from. I seek the Vatican, and the palaces. I affect to be intoxicated with sights and suggestions, but I am not intoxicated. My giant goes with me wherever I go.

I enjoy reading about your experiences and hope that you can find what you are seeking.
