Another fan of Entocort!
Hi, all
Since joining this group, I got the results of my endo/colonoscopy and have medications prescribed. The diagnosis is CC (which I had figured was the case, but now the doctor believes it...). She originally prescribed Asacol and another drug, and I was able to negotiate Entocort in place of the second one. I've resisted drugs for a long time, but these are well worth it. I'm taking both, at the usual dosage. It's taken about two weeks, but the results are now very good! (I've realized that I have a reluctance to go into detailed descriptions, probably a familial thing :) you all are helping me to work on that!)
As of today things are quite good--geeze, it's been a long time since that has happened! Also, my energy feels much better. It might just be that starting the day so awfully would drain me of energy, but now, in the morning, I don't have that awful apprehension and sense of dread that I often had. I've been able to put some miles on my bike and walk distances without getting exhausted, it's wonderful.
I had been doing the GF diet for a while, and I've also avoiding soy and dairy, so I think the diet supports the healing. My only concern is that I only have the Entocort @ 9 mg/ day for a month, and then I am supposed to start tapering off and use the Asacol. I'm worried that things will deteriorate, given the stories of many here, and I'm hoping that the GI doctor will go along with me on this. No side effects, and a feeling of well being for which I am grateful.
Another positive effect is that I also have a chronic kidney disease--polycystic kidneys--and my chronic dehydration has been debilitating for the kidneys, so it has been very important to get this all under control. I'm hoping for some better kidney function numbers at my next tests.
Again, everyone here, thanks so much for the deep knowledge, wisdom and good heartedness of all of you.
Helen

What terrific news!
I'm sure that following a GF, SF and DF diet has enabled your quick results from Entocort and Asacol. If you've been reading other posts, you know that those that follow a diet in conjunction with medication usually find relief much more quickly and also are able to taper the dosage of medications more quickly. Hopefully, that will hold true for you.
Most of us find that it takes much longer to completely get off medications than our doctors think. I wouldn't worry about it right now. Your doctor might be quite willing to adapt to your situation. In the meantime, enjoy getting your life back!

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
Helen,
Congratulations! I hope that you continue to see improvement, on an ongoing basis.
I agree with Gloria that the efforts you've put into your diet are paying dividends, and should eventually allow you to completely control your symptoms by diet alone. I also agree that your doctor will probably be willing to extend your Entocort prescription for a longer period, if needed.
If your GI doc isn't willing to do that, many of us have found that our GP will write a prescription, once we have a diagnosis for MC, and a previous prescription for Entocort, from a GI doc.
Thanks for such an upbeat post. We never tire of reading updates, and especially success stories.

Greetings! I am new to this board and this is my first post I have been getting so frustrated as nothing seems to work and I feel as though my drs are idiots. This MC has been going on for a while and all I have gotten so far is Bentyl, Imodium and Lomotil - which are not doing a whole lot, no surprise there.
After my 2nd colonoscopy (the first I ever had, the dr removed 15 polyps, all benign) he said I was lucky as I was only 39 at the time. My 2nd showed no growths, yay. So they tell me this goes away on its own. Not likely, my a$$ hurts and I have an angry roaring belly that hurts. Now the dr prescribed Entocort, he said it should work. Well after insurance it costs about $500 and I am wondering why you even have insurance and how dare these drug companies charge an arm and a leg for medication. It's nuts
Does anyone have any idea how I can get this (provided its worth getting) without bankrupting me? Are there any other meds that work?
Please help, I am at my witts end here!@@@@@@

SoaringEagle, I know you are in the right place.
Yes, Entocort can be expensive. I suggest you go here and read about how I recently got Entocort .

Hi,
Welcome to the board. The information you're looking for is in the first post in this forum, (under announcements):

These are overseas, online pharmacies, but they are reliable, and they sell good products. A number of members buy their Entocort there. There is no affordable Entocort available in the U. S.
The first one listed, sells brand name Entocort EC. The other one sells a generic knockoff, which is much cheaper, but it seems to work just as well as the name brand stuff. It takes roughly three weeks to receive an order, since it has to go through customs, when it arrives in the U. S.
The link that Charlotte posted also covers all that information, and more, and it should answer your question.

I have a question about ordering the Budez CR from overseas. It looks like they sell 10 - 3 mg. capsules for $4.50. If I were to order 270 capsules, would they have to ship me 27 packages, or do they put them all in a larger container?
The Budez CR is much cheaper at 45 cents a pill. It would cost me $121.50 for 270 pills, compared to the $50 I'm paying right now under insurance. I just might order some and start stocking up in anticipation of the possible changes once Obama care kicks in.

Gloria,
I would guess that it is packaged as 10 capsules per unit, but that's strictly a guess. You might ask Ant, because he has ordered from them before, so he would surely know. Isn't this also the ones that JoAnn uses?

Thanks for the info- I was looking at Canadian Pharmacies which seem to be much cheaper. I find it ridiculous that this great country of ours allows medication to be unaffordable.wonderwoman wrote: SoaringEagle, I know you are in the right place.

It appears that the recently enacted "Health Care Reform Bill" is not designed to make health care more affordable, either - it's designed to make health insurance mandatory. IOW, instead of only benefiting the drug companies, it also benefits the insurance companies, while increasing the average cost of health care. I guess the government figured that's what taxpayers wanted. How they reached that conclusion is beyond logic.SoaringEagle wrote:I find it ridiculous that this great country of ours allows medication to be unaffordable.
