Where can I buy GF foods online?

Post by IDreamInColor »

I am pretty well housebound with agoraphobia/panic disorder, and now this microscopic colitis, I'm a mess. I need to find online sources for GF foods, can anyone recommend?
THanks so much!!!

Amazon has a lot, I believe. I don't usually order online.

These are a few in addition to Amazon.

google Gluten Free Pantry & Glutino

You'll find quite a few places websites and places to find gluten free foods. They are expensive though. I try to avoid soy also so if you are sensitive to other foods be sure you check ingredients. For canned tuna or chicken I look for ingredients that only have the food I'm after, water, salt. There aren't many. Spectrum makes a gluten free, soy free mayonaise and it is very good. If you order by the case there is free shipping I think.

here in Australia I order a fair bit of stuff online

pricing is about the same, products are a bit cheaper, but then you pay for postage

the main advantage for me is guaranteed stock, many times i have driven 30 - 45 mins from home to go to a select shop for certain ingredient and they have sold out and dont know when the next order will be in etc

some of the websites i use have a great summary for each product showing if the product is Dairy Free, Soy Free, Yeast Free etc
so I have set up my profile that it only shows the items that suit my dietary plan.

the words "agoraphobia panic disorder gluten"

I think you may be amazed to see that people who went gluten free had their symptoms go away or lessen. YMMV

"But panic attacks and the associated syndrome of panic disorder are in fact a frequent feature of undiagnosed celiac disease and other autoimmune and inflammatory conditions caused by the false alarm reaction of the immune system, primarily in the form of IgG antibodies. According to the European research that American researchers are only starting to discover and replicate, anyone with significant levels of IgG antibodies to gliadin is at a greatly elevated risk of autoimmune disease of some form, whether thyroid, pancreatic, arthritic, or celiac, to name the most obvious."

Does your local grocer deliver? Possibly they alreay have GF items you could order or you could request that they stock certain items. It seems every time I go to the store I see more and more GF options.

I like using two sources for gluten free products--and vitamins, too--who have very good prices and service:
www.vitacost.com
www.iherb.com
vitacost charges $4.99 to ship any size order, a big advantage when you are getting pounds of foodstuffs. They usually have a special offer for free shipping if you buy a certain amount. A caveat, however, be careful not to submit an order with any weird boxes prechecked, because they have been known to sign you up for all kinds of things you probably don't want.
Re iherb, if you register on their site they will make you a "VIP" and that gives you an additional 10% off their already low prices.
Good luck to you! Beverly
