Our local paper has a Healthy Living section which had this article from the Associated Press. I thought Oh great! But the same blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Because gluten-free is what low-carb was a decade ago: The "it" diet discussed on daytime talk shows, promoted by hyper-slim actresses and adopted by masses. Grocery aisles are stocked with the likes of gluten-free pasta, crackers, cereal and beer.

Americans are enthusiastically exiling a dietary staple that wasn't even in most people's vocabulary a decade ago.

I goofed and the title of the article did not show in the subject line.

I thought my original post read,

Gluten-free has gone big time, but why so popular?

Charlotte,

Oh great, the "stars" are making it trendy.

Looks like I will be heading back to the shopping in the Hostess Twinkie aisle. Waiting with baited breath to see how Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan feel about gluten.
