After reading the above article and the comments posted on the Washington Post web site by readers of the article, I have decided to NOT get the flu shot this year. It was only about the last eight years that I joined the crowd and got a flu shot. This year will be different.

Notice the panic regarding global warming by scientists, who receive billions anually in research dollars from governments who support global warming research. It is good business to be an alarmist scientist, since your request for research dollars goes to the top of the R&D heap.
Witness Al Gore and his relentless alarm sounding on global warming, and his personal profits via green companies, all while he jets around the world and buys lavish mansion after mansion. His lifestyle is far from green, yet the alarm he sounds makes him plenty of green.
Witness the overblown panic over bank distress and the resultant bailout. Or the panic over GM and resultant bailout. Now it appears there is a panic over GM pensions and the government is going to bail them out. The beneficiaries are those government officials who dole out dollars in exchange for votes from those sectors...they pump up fears over outcomes, overstate consequences (can you say great depression), and gather in political capital.
When Rahmbo says "let no good crisis go to waste" he hoists the battle standard of the alarmist profiteer.

I've never had a flu shot, but I went through most of the seed stock for the current strains, back when I was growing up, so I should have some degree of resistance. If the government, (and the medical community), weren't so deceitful about the risks involved with the disease, and the vaccines, I might be more receptive to their "sales pitch". As long as they use a "used car salesman" approach to selling them, though, as far as I'm concerned, it's caveat emptor.

Ain't it the truth.

It was 11 months ago, yesterday that I got my first flu shot that has changed
my life forever. During these 11 months, I have had 6 months of D., (I could say
something else here but I'm sure yall all know) I'm still having
D now and have been on Endocort going on my 3rd month.
You know, thinking about this, I believe we have at least one or two additional members who have also suffered very adverse reactions to those shots. Our membership numbers in the hundreds, not hundreds of thousands. If those reactions are so rare, (as they claim), why have so many of our members personally experienced a severe reaction? I smell something rotten, somewhere.

I suspect many doctors do not report reactions to the FDA. I know mine didn't so I reported it, but I am guessing most don't go through the trouble, so there really is no accurate data.

I'm sure you're right. I've read elsewhere that they're seldom reported. I suppose doctors are reluctant to kill the goose that laid the golden egg. LOL.

winter here in oz has just finished and there was even some reported cases of swine flu.
Common sense was my best protection (and the Vit D) i have the anti bacterial gel stuff at my desk to use after i have used commonual equipment, touched door handles etc. I never share anything with colleagues that are sick
i even had colleaugues 'ban' a sick person from a meeting to give me protection!
the other thing that has been prevelant of late here in australia is whooping cough, chicken pox. again friends/work colleagues that have children that have had chicken pox have been very considerate and kept their distance as they are aware that my immunity is a bit compromised. and i have avoided situations and crowds where there would be lots of children.

Good for you, for going about it the right way. I encounter so many people who talk about how inconsiderate others are about spreading viruses, and then when they get a virus themselves, they're right there hacking and crouping on everyone else, as if they should somehow be exempt from their own advice.
It's good to hear that courtesy and common sense is alive and well in Australia.

Many of you know that I do not get flu shots, but I'll weigh in again this year as a NO. As noted above, the 2 best preventive measures are vitamin D and frequent handwashing.
Charlotte,
Have you had the blood test to see what your level is? That is the best way to begin. I will take 6000 IUs a day during the winter. I think the body uses about 5000 IUs a day. If you get regular bathing suit sun exposure without block during midday in Phoenix, you may be OK with the 2000 IUs.
