I LOVE having MC because...

Post by Zizzle »

In the last month I experienced sadness and then anger over my new diet. I think I'm finally at acceptance, and am able to find some benefits and humor in my new lifestyle. So here goes. Please reply with your own...

I LOVE HAVING MC BECAUSE:

1. I don't have to exercise to keep my weight down.
... 1.1 I get all my exercise RUNNING to the bathroom.
..... 1.2. I get to spend quality time catching up with my young kids who almost always follow me into the bathroom.
....... 1.3 I get to educate my kids all about #2s.
2. I can get #2s done in 2 minutes.
3. I'm never, ever, constipated.
4. I can jump to the front of the long line at Potbelly's Sandwich Shop, because I'm only buying the vegan vegetable soup.
5. I can avoid gorging on junk food at the ballpark.
6. I get to blow the family grocery budget on specialty foods.
7. I can eat all the meat, seafood, eggs, nuts and fat I want.
8. I can drink all the fruity mixed drinks I want.
9. When people invite me to dinner, they have to serve good, healthy foods, instead of cheap pizza and pasta.
10. Sorbet is tastier than ice cream.
11. I save money on lunch at work because I almost always bring my own.
12. I have veto power over which restaurants we go to.
13. I can quiz waiters and their managers and make them feel guilty for their ignorance.
14. I don't have to see doctors for follow-up, unless I want to.
15. I can manage my symptoms with diet instead of medications.

Hey Z.,

LOVE it! It's so empowering to find that silver lining, isn't it? What happened to your quote about making lemonade out of lemons? (It is so appropriate for you.) How about:

I love having MC because.......

* it is a non-terminal disease.
* I have a ready-made excuse whenever I want to avoid a long car ride or a boring function.
* Otherwise I would never have met all of these wonderful Potty People!

Love,

Polly

__ I have researched and learnt so much about eating habits of people over the past 2000 years......

Zizzle - what a fabulous attitude - thanks for starting this thread.

1. Since I have been experimenting with diet for 10 years of constant D, and it only worked when I found the gluten connection, it is a HUGE relief to finally know (more or less) what I can safely eat.

2. I've been trying to lose my belly and waistline bulge for what seems like forever - going to the gym, hiking, biking, swimming, doing yoga, watching my diet, etc., etc., etc. No lack of discipline!!! If I had only known that the constant bloating in my belly/waist area was due to gluten! Anyhow, now I know, and I finally have a shapely waistline and flat belly (yes, I know, it's a bit vain:) !!!

3. I'm gradually getting my old energy level back and no longer seem to suffer from "crashing fatigue".

4. Lastly, but certainly not leastly, connecting with all these wonderful people is like having found a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow!!!

In addition to some of the benefits already listed, that also apply to me, (such as the priceless opportunity to become acquainted with some of the most wonderful people in the world), I love MC because it has provided me with such a great educational opportunity.

It taught me what the word "humble" truly means.

It taught me to appreciate the concept of hope, by allowing me to experience first hand, the desolate feeling of loneliness, that can only result from total hopelessness.

It taught me that most of the things that I was spending so much of my time on, weren't nearly as important as I thought they were.

It taught me to recognize all the beautiful things around me, many of which I had been completely overlooking, before.

And last, but certainly not least, it taught me to truly appreciate country living, because when you live in the country you never have to worry about finding a toilet in a moment of panic - you are already there. :millianlaugh:

MC has taught me that there are people who give selflessly of their time with nothing expected in return, just to help another sufferer.

It has taught me to be patient, very patient.

It has made me more dependent on my Heavenly Father for support and comfort.

I have learned to appreciate every morsel that I can safely eat.

I can't think of a single thing to add 'cause you've said it all. I agree most with the fact that I found this site and the great people here.
